League chiefs met with club representatives at Haydock Park on Wednesday to discuss a number of potential tweaks for the 2018 campaign.
It is understood this included the awarding of the League Leaders' Shield after 23 rounds, rather than the current 30, and the resetting of points tallies for the Super 8s stage of the competition.
In the present system, the top eight teams retain their points from their first 23 games after the split.
Earlier time slots for Thursday games were also discussed.
However, while the meeting was a productive one, it was felt further consideration was needed and that no decisions should be taken until after another meeting at the end of the year.
The current season is generally considered to be the most exciting for some time with surprise packages Castleford, Salford and Wakefield flying high while big guns Wigan and Warrington find the going tough.
The present league structure, which sees Super League and the second-tier Championship split into three divisions of eight after 23 rounds, was introduced for an initial three-year period in 2015.
