Had a wind op before signing off for last term with a very good second in a Perth handicap hurdle in April. Improved when making a winning reappearance/chase debut at Hexham (2½m, soft) and this 4 lb higher mark should be within his reach.

Fairly useful chaser who was as good as ever when scoring at Cartmel in June. It's been a struggle in 3 subsequent starts, though, and he needs to get back on track now tried in cheekpieces.

Perked up by application of blinkers as he capitalised on reduced mark in 10-runner C&D handicap chase in September, rallying to edge back ahead final 50 yds. Collared close home in his follow-up bid at Wetherby and this 10-y-o is not without each-way hope.

Winner of 3 of his last 4 starts, including on his seasonal reappearance at Carlisle (2m, good to soft). Moving back up in trip is unlikely to be an issue and 6 lb rise fair enough, so he's one to consider.

Dual winner here during 2022/23 campaign and creditable placed efforts both completed starts at this venue last term. However, he was left behind by the winner when second in a 4-runner event at Carlisle on latest start in March (sincer undergone a wind op) and his record when fresh isn't the best.

Winner of this race on debut for George Bewley 12 months ago. Followed up at Carlisle next time and while he was a shade below par on final 2 starts of last season, this 7-y-o will have a fighting chance if he puts his best foot forward.

Useful hurdle/chase winner for Willie Mullins but losing run stretches back to June 2022 and he hasn't set the world alight in 4 starts for present yard.

Ran away with a Hexham handicap in June and put in a good shift when finding just one too good at Sedgefield (26.3f, good to soft) last month. While this drop back in trip may not be ideal, he is one for the shortlist all the same.

Got right back on track under more forceful tactics when readily making all in 7-runner C&D handicap (good to soft) in May. Likely to come on for his spin at Perth (first run for 4 months) but yard saddles a more appealing candidate in Choose A Copper.

More miss than hit since latest success at Musselburgh last November but, on the upside, he's now 8 lb below that winning mark. Coudn't rule out.

Forecasts

Choose A Copper (2/1), Breakdance Kid (7/2), Five Dollar Fine (6/1), Ganapathi (8/1), Half Shot (9/1), Chapel Green (10/1), Ned Tanner (12/1), Artic Row (12/1), Red Happy (20/1), Charlie Uberalles (25/1), Cracking Destiny (50/1)

Verdict

The vote goes to unexposed 6-y-o CHOOSE A COPPER, who made the perfect start to his chase career at Hexham where, save for a scare at the first fence, he put in a good round of jumping. There should be more to come from Lucinda Russell's charge in this sphere. Breakdance Kid is just about second choice ahead of Five Dollar Fine and Half Shot.
