Smart colt who won twice as a juvenile, notably a listed race at Haydock (8.2f). Excuses first 2 starts this season before bouncing back with a bang to win listed event at Newmarket 3 weeks ago, well on top finish. Big shout back up in class.

Won 2 of his 3 starts at 2 yrs, including Group 3 at Leopardstown. All the better for return when sixth in the Irish 2000 Guineas and stepped up again when good second in listed race at the Curragh. More needed again back up in class, though.

Useful colt who bagged a 7f listed race at Newmarket in May. Found Jersey at Royal Ascot too competitive next time, however, and has work to do again here.

Listed winner at 2 and confirmed himself a smart performer when ½-length second of 13 in the French 2000 Guineas on his reappearance. Respectable 8¼ lengths sixth of 16 in Derby at Epsom but disappointed in the Eclipse since. Expected to bounce back with sights lowered here.

Kingman colt who was third in Gimcrack on the back of a winning debut at Newmarket. Only second when odds-on favourite for a 7f Doncaster novice on reappearance but took a big step forward under top weight when fifth of 29 in handicap (8/1) at Royal Ascot (8f, firm). Not taken lightly.

Built on his encouraging debut effort when decisively taking 6-runner novice at York. Similar form when 3½ lengths third of 6 to Al Musmak in listed race (6/4) at Newmarket (8f, good to soft) 3 weeks ago. Has plenty about him physically and an excellent pedigree so may do better still.

Dual winner as a juvenile, including valuable sales race at the Curragh. Limitations rather exposed this season, however, and headgear now given a whirl.

Unraced as a juvenile but has quickly developed into a useful sort this term, winning first 2 starts. Improved further when 3¾ lengths fourth of 6 to Al Musmak in listed race at Newmarket (8f, good to soft) 3 weeks ago, doing a bit too much in front. Should have more to offer still.

Won maiden/listed before second in Middle Park (6f) on final 2-y-o start. Creditable 6¾ lengths seventh in 2000 Guineas at Newmarket (1m, good) on reappearance before not seen to best effect in the Jersey at Royal Ascot. Tongue strap on 1st time. Surely unfinished business with him as a 3-y-o.

Forecasts

Al Musmak (3/1), Lead Artist (9/2), Task Force (9/2), Dancing Gemini (11/2), King's Gamble (15/2), Socialite (8/1), Ice Max (16/1), Boiling Point (18/1), Atlantic Coast (20/1), Native American (40/1)

Verdict

AL MUSMAK built significantly on the promise of his run at Ascot when winning a listed race at Newmarket, shaping like the sort of horse he'd promised to be after his run in the Royal Lodge, and he looks ready for a step back up in class. Dancing Gemini has been highly tried this season, the highlight coming when runner-up in the French 2000 Guineas, so rates a big threat down in grade, with Task Force another to consider.
