Tough stayer who has looked better than ever in landing both starts this term, grinding it out in the Jockey Club Stakes last time. Return to this trip will suit and he boasts leading claims.

Smart type who landed the Doncaster Cup last year and has run at least respectably abroad on both outings this term. Handles cut in the ground, so not discounted.

Likeable type who was placed in a trio of top staying events last term and was far from disgraced when third to Stradivarius in the Sagaro at Ascot on return. Should give another good account.

9/4
Irish Derby winner who upped his form again when fourth in the St Leger on final 2020 outing. Reappearance was a bit underwhelming but he should be back on track.

Smart front-running stayer at his best but form tailed off in 2019 and hasn't been seen for 19 months. Hard to make any sort of case for returning at this level.

Forecasts

Sir Ron Priestley (6/5), Santiago (9/4), Spanish Mission (11/2), Nayef Road (13/2), Wells Farhh Go (33/1)

Verdict

SIR RON PRIESTLEY has returned thriving and landed the Jockey Club at Newmarket despite the drop back in trip probably not being ideal. He should get out in front and prove tough to pass, though he'll face formidable threats from stablemate Nayef Road and last year's Irish Derby winner Santiago.

  1. SIR RON PRIESTLEY
  2. NAYEF ROAD (IRE)
  3. SANTIAGO (IRE)
