Narrowly denied on debut prior to bolting up in a Yarmouth novice event (7f). Two solid efforts in defeat in Group 3 company since, including when narrowly denied over C&D by Military March; gave the impression there would be more to come at three.

Looked like a star in the making when winning a Group 2 at Royal Ascot; beaten by Pinatubo twice since, including a 2L defeat in the Dewhurst but may progress from two to three; excuses on latest run when drawn wide at the Breeders' Cup meeting.

Sea The Stars colt who hit the line well when winning over 7f on the July course on debut. Form of that race doesn't look strong enough to warrant him for consideration here on just his second start and lacks experience.

Very green when winning his debut at Haydock and posted two solid efforts in defeat when tried in Group class, only narrowly denied here over 7f (July) prior to staying on well when beaten 1L in a Doncaster Group 2. Should relish this extra furlong.

Only narrowly denied in the Royal Lodge by Royal Dornoch here prior to winning the Group 1 Vertem Futurity Stakes at Newcastle in November. However, perhaps best suited to the surface that day and may need to raise his game again back on turf.

Unbeaten in two, winning a novice at Salisbury that worked out well prior to a Group 3 win here (heavy, 7f) in November, staying on well, seemingly relishing testing conditions; probably needs rain to arrives but step back up in trip in his favour.

Could hardly have been more impressive when bolting up on debut here (7f) by 8L in what looked a competitive novice race on paper. Very disappointing when a short price for the Vertem Futurity but won't have been suited to that surface; interesting.

Won a novice here on the July course prior to getting the better of fellow reopposing Godolphin inmate Al Suhail over C&D in a Group 3 last time; needs to step up on the bare level of that form to play a part.

Narrowly prevailed on Ascot debut prior to a very impressive 11L win in a sales race at York; that form hasn't worked out particularly well though and he was well beaten up in class (6f) here last time; has a bit to prove and stamina is an unknown.

Newmarket maiden winner here (7f) and sacrificed as a pacemaker in the Vertem Futurity; disappointed at Kempton in March though and looks up against it back up in class.

Persuasion254
Age: 3|  Weight: 9-0| J: K Shoemark| T: C Hills| OR:  99
250/1
Maiden winner at the Glorious Goodwood meeting but he was a disappointing favourite in a Group 3 at York and proved no match for reopposing Wichita over 7f last time out; has his work cut out to reverse that form.

Pinatubo238
Age: 3|  Weight: 9-0| J: W Buick| T: C Appleby| OR:  128
5/6
Outstanding juvenile, winning all six starts including a scintillating performance when bolting up by 9L in a Curragh Group 1 prior to confirming the form with Arizona here in the Dewhurst; shapes like an extra 1f won't be an issue; the one to beat.

Off the mark at the fourth attempt when dropped back to maiden class at Gowran but took his form to a new level when beating Kameko in the Royal Lodge last time; could yet have more to give at this trip and should improve from two to three.

Stayed on to win a novice event at Kempton on debut but needs a huge step up from that level of form to make any impression here.

Wichita238
Age: 3|  Weight: 9-0| J: L Dettori| T: A P O'Brien| OR:  114
15/2
Made it two wins from three starts when beating Persuasion 7L here in September (7f, good). However, looked no match for Pinatubo when third in the Dewhurst (Arizona second) and not certain to stay 1m; second string on jockey bookings.

Forecasts

Pinatubo (5/6), Wichita (15/2), Arizona (9/1), Kameko (10/1), Al Suhail (14/1), Military March (20/1), Kinross (20/1), Mums Tipple (22/1), Kenzai Warrior (40/1), Royal Dornoch (40/1), Juan Elcano (66/1), Starcat (80/1), Cepheus (150/1), New World Tapestry (250/1), Persuasion (250/1)

Verdict

Pinatubo's chance is there for all to see after a startling two-year-old campaign but there might be a bit of value in the price of KINROSS if he's available at double figure odds. The son of Kingman wouldn't have been suited to the all-weather test in last year's Vertem Futurity when a short priced favourite but he produced some impressive sectionals on his debut here and his potential remains in tact. Aidan O'Brien has won four of the last five renewals of this race and Arizona would appear to be the pick of his quartet.
  1. Kinross
  2. Pinatubo
  3. Arizona
