Trainer 0-15 with 2yo newcomers last five years; dam sprint maiden half-sister to smart winner at up to 1m in Ceremonial Jade. Faces some decent types from top stables and hard to see him making an impression.

40/1
Yard not noted for their first-time out 2yo's; dam was a quick sort and won a decent nursery at York. This is her first foal and he could also turn out to be a speedy sort; could well need this experience though.

Figures of 1-90 with debutante 2yo's don't augur well for the yard with this son of Swiss Spirit. Stamina on the distaff side suggest that he will need further than this 5f in time; others make more appeal.

£60,000 yearling by Mehmas out of an Arcano mare who stayed 1m (winner at that trip). Yard have a modest 10% strike-rate with debutant 2yo's; pedigree makes some appeal but others present a more compelling case.

Lockdown
Age: 2|  Weight: 9-5| J: Andrea Atzeni| T: H Palmer
9/2
Half-brother to several winners including useful 6f 2yo winner Fuente; dam also 6f winner (including as a 2yo). Cost 45,000 guineas as a yearling; yard have a decent record with juvenile newcomers; bred to be sharp, leading contender.

Muker
Age: 2|  Weight: 9-5| J: P Mulrennan| T: Phillip Makin
20/1
Yard yet to have a 2yo newcomer win (0-9); £27,000 yearling, half-brother to three winners, including useful winner up to 6f Lady Mega. Dam a maiden (stayed 6f); could run well but likely to need a little more time.

From a top stable who always need respecting with their 2yo newcomers. Dam a winner at up to 1m (2yo 7f winner); half-sister to a couple of smart types. Market suggesting that he will have a leading role on debut.

Cost £52,000 as a yearling; dam 5f/6f winner, half-sister to a useful sort in Party Doctor with some other talented types in the family. Yard know how to prepare a juvenile for debut; one to watch in the market, could play a leading part.

Sound Reason
Age: 2|  Weight: 9-5| J: K Stott| T: K A Ryan
9/1
Another yard in the race that should always be respected with their 2yo's and can certainly ready one first time out. Half-brother to the useful 6f/7f winner Split Down South; dam winner up to 1m (7f 2yo winner); worth keeping an eye on.

Hard to ignore given his connections having cost 125,000 guineas as a yearling. By Dark Angel (sire has a good record at the trip); brother to 2yo 6f winner Juliette Fair and useful 2yo 7f winner Juliet Capulet; strong challenger from top stable.
Stable don't have a prolific record with 2yo debutants but this son of July Cup winner Mayson comes from a speedy family; dam half-sister to 5f/6f 2yo winner Red Balloons. Ought to put up a fair display but others likely to have the edge for now.

Yard are 3-72 with first-time 2yo's (last five years); £8,000 yearling out of an unraced mare although there are some speedy relations on the distaff side. Sure to improve for the run, may find this company a little too warm.

Forecasts

Significantly (3/1), Strike Red (4/1), Lockdown (9/2), Mutazawwed (6/1), Fools Rush In (13/2), Sound Reason (9/1), Muker (20/1), Tatsthewaytodoit (33/1), Colton (40/1), The Mousen Champ (66/1), Erniesmilkcart (125/1), Brave Sir Robin (150/1)

Verdict

The first juvenile contest of the year so no form to work with but there are some good stables represented along with some sharp pedigrees. Lockdown from a yard with a good record here with 2yo’s (8-38) is an obvious contender and he’s expected to go close but slight preference is for STRIKE RED. Bred to be an early type the Fahey team know how to ready one first-time out and he’s taken to score on his debut. Mutazawwed is another from a powerful yard that is bred to be useful as a 2yo and his yard are no strangers to winning juveniles. Sound Reason is worth keeping an eye on in the market along with Significantly.
  1. Strike Red
  2. Lockdown
  3. Significantly
