Improved markedly on two previous efforts (in which he finished last on each occasion) when runner-up at Carlisle (1m; good to firm) on much better ground. Now makes handicap/AW debut and if proving that wasn't a fluke he is a major player.

Something to prove on return to 1m after sole effort over this trip at Kempton last December yielded very little positives. On a good mark but must bounce back from most recent disappointment when an underwhelming favourite (7/2f) at Yarmouth.

Let himself down last time when trailing in 11th of 13 at Yarmouth (1m; good to firm) after compiling a more consistent record. Record now stands at 0-10, and he hasn't shown an obvious liking for the AW.

Broke maiden duck at the ninth attempt when a short-head winner of a Thirsk (1m; good) handicap last week. Up 3lb but could be dangerous to dismiss if allowed to make all again. Second AW start.

0-10 and unappealing profile overall. However, the best run of his career came when he was second on only AW start last July. Return to this surface could see some improvement.

Put best foot forward last time to go close at Thirsk (1m; good) when runner-up. Doesn't look the most reliable, but on the basis of that bare form he would hold solid claims so is one to keep on the right side of.

Posted another disappointing run on handicap debut at Thirsk (1m4f) last month. Now returns to 1m, but showed nothing when running in maidens over this sort of trip. Cannot be fancied until at least showing a bit more zest.

13-race maiden, and she looks to have gone off the boil the last thrice after stringing together a few good efforts in defeat. Mark is sliding, but no obvious signs being shown of taking advantage of that.

Hard to fault his consistency in recent starts, as he has finished runner-up on each of his last three runs (the first of those coming at this course). Denied by the narrowest of margins the last twice, and has to enter calculations.

Handicap debut was particularly underwhelming when she finished some way behind Carlow Boy. Cheekpieces are now put on for the first time, but they will need to have a major effect to galvanise this filly on all she has shown so far.

Verdict

A tricky 1m handicap to round the night off, and the suggestion is KEY CHOICE. The son of Iffraaj benefitted for the step up to this trip when encountering much better ground when he improved by some way on all known form to go finish second to a 1/6f at Carlisle when last seen. He should improve for the switch to handicaps and can make the perfect transition to this code. Another one who also went close last time out is Dreamseller who holds solid claims after finishing second to Mecca's Gift at Thirsk last week. Chakrii has finished second on each of his last three starts (including when beaten a head the last twice) and should run his usual consistent race.
