Top class stayer who enjoyed a fine three-year-old campaign culminating in a St Leger third. Unbeaten in three runs this term including wins in the Ascot Gold Cup and Goodwood Cup; conceding a penalty to these rivals shouldn't be an issue.
Won on seasonal return and ran well in defeat in a valuable conditions race at Royal Ascot when last seen. Plenty more needed at this level though and he's already finished behind Stradivarius three times in his career.
Won the Doncaster Cup last year but form has plateaued somewhat this season. Finished a respectable second behind Stradivarius earlier in the campaign here but that was that rival's seasonal reappearance and he will struggle to reverse the form.
Got his head back in front at Chester at the start of the campaign in Group 3 company but he's failed to kick on from that. Third behind Stradivarius last time out but he was 6½L behind and it's hard to see him reversing the form.
Won this race back in 2015 but has won just once since when landing a six-runner event at Killarney last year. Has disappointed in four starts this time around and plenty more needed here. First-time cheekpieces on.
Won a maiden at Kempton last year but hasn't won since and has failed to win in handicap company this year. Out of his depth here. Wears first-time blinkers.
Very consistent sort who has placed four times at Group level this campaign. Step back up in trip is a positive and he looks capable of running well again.
Produced a career best effort when winning a valuable contest at Goodwood last time when held up off the pace. Step up in trip would appear to be a positive move and he may be capable of picking up some place money if ridden in similar fashion.
Looked progressive as a three-year-old but has suffered an interrupted career since. Produced one of his better efforts when third in this race last year but it's a tougher contest this time around. Should come on for recent Goodwood reappearance.
Forecasts
Stradivarius (4/11), Idaho (7/1), Red Verdon (8/1), Count Octave (14/1), Desert Skyline (14/1), Max Dynamite (18/1), Sir Chauvelin (25/1), St Michel (25/1), Petitioner (100/1)
STRADIVARIUS bids to win the £1m bonus in the initiative's first year and he's going to be hard to beat despite having to carry a 3lb bonus for his recent Group 1 Goodwood Cup win. Andrea Atzeni didn't give him a hard race in the closing stages that day and he's looked the star stayer all season. Red Verdon has been running some fine races in defeat this campaign while Sir Chauvelin produced a career best last time and isn't without each-way claims.
