French Listed winner (7f, good) last season. Best effort was when beating just one home in Group 3 company at Newbury last month. Out of sorts at Ascot latest and, while the step up in trip looks positive, this is a tough ask.

Scored over 6f (good to firm) at this meeting last year and beaten less than 3L in a Group 2 at Newmarket next time. Ran well on reappearance back there last month. Didn't seem to see out 1m2½f at Chester latest. Each-way claims from this mark.

Beaten just once in four starts, all over 7f, and progressing well. Up 8lb for an authoritative win at Newbury last time, but open to further improvement now stepped up to this trip and could take some beating from a decent draw.

Unable to add to a Chester maiden win (5f, good) from this time last year. Was beginning to look exposed over shorter, but improved for the step up to 7½f last time. Up 5lb for that, which won't make a first handicap win any easier to come by.

Has improved on last year's form, which included a debut win at Nottingham (6f), this term, adding further wins at Chelmsford and Musselburgh over 1m. Held last two starts from 3lb higher and forecast conditions look plenty quick enough for him.

Has made progress with each run and his latest effort when scoring at Redcar (1m, good to firm) on his turf debut (front pair 3¾L clear) earned him a place in this line-up. 7lb rise looks fair and he is entitled to make the short list.

Won over this trip at Windsor (good to soft) in September when 14lb lower. Comfortably held in Epsom Listed event (1m2f, good) on his reappearance and also in a Chester handicap (7½f, good) from this mark last time. More needed.

Won novices' events at Lingfield (7f) and Chepstow (1m) last season and twice went close in handicaps at Doncaster (beaten a neck by Ventura Knight in October, now 3lb better off). Not ruled out from this mark but two under par runs to shake off.

Has shown some improvement on his juvenile form already this season, winning at Ripon (1m, soft) and also running with credit at Newmarket (1m, good) last time. Couldn't rule him out of the frame, but fast ground a slight concern.

Has made a good start this season since joining this trainer, winning at both Newbury (1m, good to soft) and Wolverhampton (1m½f, AW). Initial mark looks fair and there could be more to come. Each-way claims.

Scored at York (6f, good) in a novices' event in July and best effort came next time at Chester. Put in a respectable performance on his reappearance over Doncaster's straight 1m last time. Cheekpieces retained/dropped 2lb but more needed.

Has taken a marked step up on his two-year-old form this season, winning on his reappearance at Lingfield (1m, AW) and improving a little on that at Ripon (1m2f) last time. Makes handicap debut from a mark that will require more.

Going the right way as evidenced by his 7f Lingfield (AW) win last time on his handicap debut. Beaten 1L by Qaysar at Kempton in November. 12lb better off today, though that opponent has improved since, but this colt has claims now upped to 1m.

Another novices' winner last season, having scored at Newmarket (7f, good) in July on his fourth and final start. Improved on that on reappearance/handicap debut over this trip at Ascot (good to firm). Not ruled out but poor draw to overcome.

Verdict

Only one of the last 10 winners of this race has been sent off at a double-figure price and again it looks like it could pay to concentrate on the top end of the market, with the suggestion being QAYSAR. Richard Hannon's colt steps up in trip here and looks capable of continuing his progress. Completion is another colt on the rise and is feared in opposition, while the same applies to Crack On Crack On. Ventura Knight is also considered in a race that should produce more winners as the season unfolds.
