Fell at Becher's Brook in the Grand Sefton at Aintree in December 2016, and generally lightly raced since winning over C&D by 12L in March 2016. Back on that same winning mark, so handicapper giving him every chance, but still appears risky.
Both career successes have come over fences, but he's not won since downing Brother Scott by 12L here (2m7½f) in May 2015. That said, he's run some creditable races in defeat, he's slipping in the weights and could be stronger for his Cartmel run.
Remains a maiden over fences under rules, and hasn't exactly thrived for new connections since leaving Nicky Henderson for £20,000 in May. However, his mark has fallen 10lb and that could be exploited in time if his fencing steadily improves.
Veteran chaser who performs well at Newcastle, albeit his last success was here in December 2016 (2m1f). He's back down to that winning mark, and this trip is fine. Absent since May, and the key question is whether he'll be sharp enough.
Well backed once more when 'winning' the recent controversial void race at Perth earlier this month (3m good to soft). That clearly demonstrated his well-being, and he could well break his chasing duck from the same mark despite this shorter trip.
Not won since August 2016 (Sedgefield), and that race represents his sole rules career success. Regressed since leaving the care of Charlie Longsdon and plummeted in the weights, but no signs of any revival being imminent.
A winner over fences from a 7lb higher mark at Market Rasen in May 2016 (2m5f+ good to soft), but fair to say he hasn't really progressed. Placed on his sole start at this track (October 2016), but poor more latterly.
Half of his 10 wins have come at his beloved Sedgefield, and he's generally far stronger there. That said; he has also run well here much earlier in his career. On a reasonable mark over fences, but generally below par last month (hurdles).
Forecasts
Red Giant (6/5), Sendiym (9/2), Voyage A New York (13/2), Leanna Ban (17/2), Cooper's Friend (10/1), Sirius Star (14/1), Rosquero (16/1), Clondaw Banker (33/1)
Connections of RED GIANT were left bitterly disappointed after their gelding broke his chasing maiden tag in the much talked about and controversial void race fiasco at Perth last week. Compensation is quickly sought from the same mark, and whilst a drop in trip and a different track might not prove wholly ideal, he can be strongly fancied to make amends, particularly given his strength in the market at Perth.
