Sole success came at Chelmsford (1m, AW) in an auction maiden in October, but he has put up three very good efforts in four subsequent starts and there was no disgrace in his 4½L seventh in the Group Two Queen's Vase at Royal Ascot last time. Up 2lb for that today, but looks likely to perform very well.
Put in a few good efforts in maidens before winning one at Chester in May (1m2½f, good) and remains on the same mark as when beaten just over 5L in the King George V Stakes at Royal Ascot. That was over 1m4f and he raced keenly there, so will need to settle better if he is to get this extra 2f.
Has so far raced only on good ground or softer and won his maiden by 3L at Chepstow (1m4f, soft) last time, when odds-on favourite. Handicap mark probably looks fair for this first such outing and he goes into it unexposed, though he will need to be firing to win from it.
Won a Wolverhampton maiden on his first start back this term (1m4f, AW) and after another good effort, he won a Sandown handicap (1m6f, good) when stepped up to this trip last time. Raised 3lb for that and now has tongue tie fitted and looks booked for another good run.
Has run to a similarly competitive level of form in all three starts, going close over 1m3½f here on debut (good to firm) and also at Lingfield, before coming good at Doncaster (1m4f, good to firm) last time by almost 4L. Another whose mark looks fair for his first handicap, though has it to prove now stepped up in trip.
Has prospered since moving into handicap company, winning her last three from 1m3f-1m4f and rising 20lb in the process. Did the job easily at Yarmouth last time, prompting her latest 7lb rise and she now steps up in grade and trip at the same time. Looks likely to stay but has a little to prove on ground of class at this level.
Has been gradually stepping up in trip in five starts, winning her most recent over 1m4f (good to soft) at Newmarket. Shapes as though she will get this far (is a half-sister to a 1m5f winner) and she is another for an increasing shortlist in this competitive contest.
Goes into this 14lb higher than when scoring over 1m4f at Southwell in April and has continued to progress over today's trip despite not winning in three subsequent starts. Acts on fast ground, though looks up against it in this field trying to defy a 3lb rise for his latest effort.
Has clearly relished the step up to this trip in his two most recent starts, winning over it at both Nottingham (good) and Sandown (good to firm). Has gone up 5lb each time, but pulled out what was required last time. Will need to pull out a fair bit more now to win at this level.
Wasn't able to compete in handicaps until stepping up to this trip at Wetherby (good) in May. Beaten from today's mark next time at Musselburgh, though got closer on the All Weather at Chelmsford last time. Will need improvement to figure.
Forecasts
Humble Hero (11/4), Zenon (7/2), Mister Manduro (5/1), Cribbs Causeway (9/1), Jukebox Jive (9/1), Dominating (10/1), Mistress Quickly (12/1), Never Surrender (14/1), Look My Way (16/1), Cray (28/1)
A cracking start to the card, with very solid form brought to the table by Mister Manduro and Never Surrender. Zenon makes his handicap debut from a slightly tougher mark than HUMBLE HERO, who gets the narrow vote given the amount he appeared to have in hand last time. Mistress Quickly and Cribbs Causeway are others who should be thereabouts.
