Almost a year’s absence has to be a slight question mark for Fine Wine, but we can’t resist a small swing at this four-time course winner, as a mark of just 83 is a tempting one, and from stall 3 he might be able to lead these up the middle and lead them a merry dance.

On his day, he’s as speedy a 4f horse as any handicapper you care to name, and that was still in evidence when sixth in a much stronger race than this at Newcastle a year ago, but we only saw him three times in an abbreviated campaign in 2024 and clearly he had issues. In the past he has won fresh, and whilst this is a different kettle of fish, he’s certainly one to be keeping an eye on in the near future, win or lose today, as he’s going to outclass and outspeed a field sooner rather than later.

Sheeka Supreme hasn’t shown much under rules but gets to race on good ground for the first time today and was a useful point-to-point winner for Colin Bowe on such a surface before being sold for £170,000 to join Grace Harris. That’s not money that Grace flashes around too often, and she will be keen to see some return for her investment.

The negatives with Sheeka Supreme are that he’s shown only poor form for the stable to date but only two of his runs have come over fences and he’s a lot more likely to get competitive now racing on a sound surface, and more significantly, on the back of wind surgery. The offspring of Flemensfirth are prone to breathing issues, but backing them blind after wind surgery is a profitable play and I can see the procedure making Sheeka Supreme much more competitive than he has been.
