Match report

Nick Gubbins' classy century and Toby Roland-Jones' impressive opening spell gave Middlesex an 89-run Duckworth Lewis victory over Hampshire in the Royal London One-Day Cup.

Gubbins fluently made 114, his third List A ton, to help the visitors reach 295 from their 50 overs at Southampton, before leaving their hosts well short of the total.

Middlesex's first win of the competition, which renewed their hopes of quarter-final qualification, came after Roland-Jones took four wickets for 10 runs to undermine Hampshire's reply.

Michael Carberry clubbed a pair of boundaries before chipping an upper-cut to Tom Helm at third man.

James Vince lashed behind outside off-stump, before Tom Alsop failed to guide a short ball to third man - instead edging to Adam Voges at first slip.

England man Liam Dawson was the next to fall victim to Roland-Jones when he inside-edged behind while attempting a pull.

That left Hampshire on 34 for four and last year's Wisden Cricketer of the Year with figures of four for nine.

George Bailey and Sean Ervine produced a counter-attacking 70-run stand in quick time but the latter flicked to the square-leg boundary for 33.

Lewis McManus was next to fall when Ryan Higgins bowled him, and Gareth Berg squirted a shot to Helm at long-on.

Rain brought play to an end, with 20 overs to play, with Bailey unbeaten on 52 - leaving Hampshire with just one win from their opening three one-day matches.

Earlier, after being put in, Gubbins gave Middlesex a solid base thanks to stands of 47 and 133 with Dawid Malan (24) and Voges (44) respectively.

Tidy spin bowling by Liam Dawson and Mason Crane curtailed Middlesex's effort in the middle overs, with the former stopping the runs and talented leg-spinner Crane grabbing three wickets.

But it was left-arm paceman Reece Topley who boasted the best figures, ending with four for 68 after a tail-end blitz.

Malan was the first man to go, chasing a Berg delivery down his leg side and tickling behind off his glove.

Sam Robson only lasted seven balls before he was forced to retire hurt after pulling his hamstring while attempting a run - but Voges entered to continue the good start.

Gubbins moved past a 57-ball half-century and with the score 172 for one at the end of the 30th over Middlesex had the perfect platform.

But the last 20 overs proved more challenging, with Voges departing when he top-edged Crane to Bailey at midwicket.

Gubbins completed a flawless 104-ball century but failed to kick on and accelerate, bowled by a Topley yorker.

John Simpson copied Voges when he tried a reverse sweep and then Ryan Higgins' leading edge was well snaffled at cover by Berg - both off the impressive Crane.

Roland-Jones picked out Alsop before captain James Franklin planted a lofted cut to Topley on the third-man boundary.

James Fuller, Helm and the returning Robson all slogged to their demise as Middlesex managed only 121 in the final 20 overs - but it proved plenty when the drizzle arrived.
