Tottenham v Leicester betting tips

Jose Mourinho exchanged words with Jurgen Klopp after a late defeat in midweek

Growing belief that Tottenham could mount a serious title challenge took something of a knock over the past week as late goals saw them held to a draw at Crystal Palace and beaten at Liverpool. But those results shouldn't overshadow the strong start Jose Mourinho's side have made, as they sit second in the table and just three points off the top after 13 fixtures.

Leicester suffered a midweek setback themselves, with Everton turning them over 2-0 at the King Power. Like Spurs, though, it's been more good than bad for Brendan Rodgers' men this term; they're only a point behind Sunday's opponents.

It should be a good contest at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium given the hosts' excellent form there in 2020/21, they would have a 100% home record but for dramatic stoppage-time equalisers for Newcastle and West Ham, and Leicester's five wins from six on the road - the defeat was at Liverpool.

As the Foxes tailed off, and Spurs finished with a flourish, Mourinho's side ruthlessly swept the visitors aside 3-0 during Project Restart, with Harry Kane and Heung-min Son running Leicester ragged. Son's deflected effort was eventually credited as a James Justin own goal, but Kane managed to keep hold of his brace.

The South Korea skipper's assist for the England captain against Palace took them on to 12 combinations in the Premier League this season already, just one shy of the record held by Blackburn's 1994/95 pair Chris Sutton and Alan Shearer.

Harry Kane and Heung-min Son have been sensational this season

They have combined 32 times in total in the top flight, trailing only Frank Lampard and Didier Drogba in the all time list.

Son found the net at Anfield in midweek, this time without the help of his strike partner, but the Tottenham duo have now scored more than 80% of their team's league goals this season - no other Spurs player has managed more than one.

All of this makes Sky Bet's 40/1 for Son to assist Kane and Kane to assist Son a mega value price.

Just take one of those and the prices are still decent enough, but the 13/2 for Son to be assisted by Kane is near enough twice the price of the other way around; incongruous given that Kane (10) has assisted four goals more than any other player in the top flight this season.

In terms of outright betting, I am must admit to being tempting by the evens price on offer for a Tottenham win, but Leicester have been so good away from home that I don't think it offers enough value.

Compare it to the goalscorer market, and Tottenham's lethal front two, and it certainly doesn't.

Score prediction: Tottenham 2-0 Leicester (Sky Bet odds: 9/1)

Brighton v Sheffield United betting tips

Brighton are a peculiar team. So often Graham Potter's side look excellent, but rarely do they gather the points they deserve.

Infogol's table based on performance has them sitting eighth in the Premier League, a long way from the reality of 16th place and just two points above the relegation zone.

I'm not sure Sheffield United will take much solace from that model placing them third from rather than on the bottom of the table.

Chris Wilder's Sheffield United are enduring a season to forget

It's been a truly miserable season for Chris Wilder's team as they continue to rack up unwanted record after unwanted record with the worst start to a campaign in Premier League history.

They've been competitive in near enough every fixture; only Southampton and Chelsea have given them a hiding. And that is why I have hope for them as they head to the south coast; they should take some encouragement at least from yet another valiant defeat, this time to Manchester United on Thursday.

Brighton have won just once in 11 top-flight matches, much of that down to their failure to convert dominance into points - a long-term problem that Potter has so far been unable to solve.

No team has drawn more than Albion's five matches this term, and their 14 last season also topped the charts.

Given that nine of the Blades' 12 defeats have come by one goal, 14/5 on the draw with Unibet is a terrifically good value play.

Brighton captain Lewis Dunk is always a threat from set-plays

One of Sheffield United's biggest weaknesses this season has been defending set-pieces; they sit behind only Leeds and Leicester for goals conceded from those situations.

Simply looking at the stats, Blades fans may think their team has little to fear at the Amex come Sunday lunchtime when faced with dead-ball situations but Albion's lack of goals from those scenarios is hugely misleading.

With three centre-backs and several excellent set-piece specialists, the Seagulls are a huge threat.

Lewis Dunk made a one-man attempt to end their set-play drought against Fulham in midweek as remarkably the Brighton captain registered five attempts on goal, the most by any player in a Premier League match this season.

The 25/1 that Paddy Power and Betfair are offering for him to break the deadlock is enough for me to take him each-way to small stakes, with both bookies paying out 1/3 odds to five places.

He is a boosted 14/1 with Sky Bet to score a header, but having netted a few stunning strikes over the years both in the top flight and Championship I'd rather not tie myself to one method of goalscoring.

Score prediction: Brighton 1-1 Sheffield United (Sky Bet odds: 11/2)
