WTA latest: Wang Yafan claims first title

Wang Yafan has clinched her maiden WTA title after beating Sofia Kenin at the Mexico Open.

The unseeded player fought back from a set down to claim victory 2-6 6-3 7-5.

After a nervy start which saw Wang drop serve twice in the opening set and trail 2-0 at the start of the second, the Chinese world number 65 found her form to win the last four games and take the match to a third set.

Wang claimed the first break of serve in the third game of the decider but Kenin - the winner at the Hobart International in January - did not give up without a fight, levelling at 3-3.

The American was one game shy of victory in the ninth, but Wang rallied to win the next game to love and after another break wrapped up the victory in two hours and 11 minutes.

In a video posted on the WTA Twitter page, Wang said: "I am very happy with this title, it's my first final and of course the title. Thank you for the support."
