Second seed Vandeweghe, who reached the semi final of the Australian Open and US Open this year, earned an early break and marched into a 5-2 first-set lead before seventh seed Goerges hit back.
Goerges broke Vandeweghe while the American was serving for the set before taking it 7-5 and begun to dominate.
She won 11 of the final 12 games and wrapped up the victory with a crosscourt return winner on her second championship point.
