WTA Tour: Julia Georges claims career-best win at WTA Elite Trophy

Germany's Julia Goerges claimed the biggest victory of her career after beating Coco Vandeweghe in the final of the WTA Elite Trophy.

The 29-year-old won in straight sets, 7-5 6-1, in Zhuhai, China on Sunday after staging a fine first-set comeback.

Goerges sealed back-to-back titles to end her season following her win in the Kremlin Cup in Moscow last month.

"It is a complete new Julia. I am much more mature, more developed. I just try to do my thing. I am have a different mindset right now," the world number 18 told a press conference.

"There's no better way to finish a season like that. It is just amazing."

Second seed Vandeweghe, who reached the semi final of the Australian Open and US Open this year, earned an early break and marched into a 5-2 first-set lead before seventh seed Goerges hit back.

Goerges broke Vandeweghe while the American was serving for the set before taking it 7-5 and begun to dominate.

She won 11 of the final 12 games and wrapped up the victory with a crosscourt return winner on her second championship point.
