WTA Finals: Where, when & TV coverage
The season-ending BNP Paribas WTA Finals Singapore will take place from October 22-29 in Singapore. The matches will be played on an indoor hardcourt at the Singapore Indoor Stadium, part of the city’s sports hub.
The tournament will be televised live in the UK by BT Sport.

WTA Finals: Singles draw & group standings
The top eight players in the WTA’s season-long ‘Race to Singapore’ rankings qualified for the WTA Finals.
Those players were drawn into two groups of four with the top two in each progressing to the semi-finals.

WTA Finals: Format & rules
The singles competition sees the eight players compete on a round-robin basis. The players are split into two groups of four with the top two in each group progressing to the knockout semi-finals - the winner of one group plays the runner-up in the other.
If two players have the same number of wins in the group stage, they will be separated via the following methods:
- Greatest number of matches played
- If only two players are tied, head-to-head result
- If three players are tied, percentage of sets won (then head-to-head result if this eliminates one of the three)
- If still level, percentage of games won
There is also an eight-team doubles competition which is played on a straight knockout basis.
WTA Finals: The future
This is the fourth year of a five-year deal which Singapore agreed to stage the tournament. 2018 is currently due to be the last at this venue.
The process to determine the 2019 hosts is already under way with English city Manchester having already expressed an interest in staging the event in two years’ time (and likely beyond). No decision will be taken until next year.
Were Manchester to host, it would become the 10th city to host the prestigious tournament which began life in 1972 in Boca Raton, Florida. It is probably best remembered for its time at Madison Square Garden in New York.
