Romanian Masters snooker: World number one Mark Selby crashes out in round one

Mark Selby crashed out of the inaugural Romanian Masters after suffering a 4-2 defeat to Liang Wenbo in the opening round.

The world number one hasn't enjoyed the best of seasons and he won't be encouraged by his outing in this new 16-man invitational event in Bucharest.

Wenbo has now beaten Selby for a second successive meeting having won their Welsh Open encounter 4-3.

He will next meet Stuart Bingham, who edged past Neil Robertson 4-3 in a battle for two former world champions.

Bingham trailed 3-2 but a top score of 137 in the sixth frame forced a decider, which he duly took.

Earlier in the day, Ali Carter and Stephen Maguire both cruised into the quarter-finals with 4-0 wins on Wednesday.

Carter beat Mark Williams 4-0 with top breaks of 74, 133 and 71 while his next opponent Maguire saw off Mark King with top runs of 109, 61, 108 and 74.
