John Virgo reflects on his highs and lows throughout a fascinating career in his autobiography Say Goodnight, JV!
John Virgo is one of snooker's most loved personalities from his years as a player, trick-shot specialist and hilarious impressionist on Big Break while he has, of course, been an outstanding commentator on the BBC since retiring from the game.
In his fascinating autobiography, Virgo takes readers through his childhood in Salford and smoky snooker clubs before sharing secrets from a 40-year career which saw him play in a whole host of tournaments around the world and mix so closely with the likes of Alex Higgins, Jimmy White, Dennis Taylor, Cliff Thorburn and many more legends of the game.
Reflecting on his greatest snooker triumphs, which earned him the admiring nickname 'Mr Perfection', John relives stories of travelling on Concorde, rubbing shoulders with royalty and how he overcame adversity to become UK champion.
He sadly recalls how gambling wrecked his dreams of becoming world champion...and nearly made him bankrupt.
John’s magical memories are a reminder of a time when Britain – and sport – took themselves a little less seriously. It’s time to say 'Hello JV!'.
