Sunday's Super League review

Featherstone 0-68 Warrington

Warrington tries: Hiku (2,47,73), Ratchford (4), Livett (8,52), Hughes (17,36), Pomeroy (22), Savelio (34), Johnson (62,79)
Goals: Livett (2,4,18,34,36,47,52,62,73,79)

Harvey Livett scored 28 points and Peta Hiku claimed three tries as Warrington maintained their unbeaten Super Eight Qualifiers record with a 68-0 victory at Featherstone.

The full-time Betfred Super League side, in their first game since it was announced that coach Tony Smith would be standing down at the end of the season, ran in seven tries before the break and five more afterwards against the Kingstone Press Championship part-timers.

Livett - who landed 10 conversions - Jack Hughes and Jack Johnson also bagged braces, among seven different tryscorers, while Rovers were shut out at the other end.

Wigan 20-38 Castleford

Wigan tries: Davies (53), Tomkins (55), Leuluai (62), Isa (76)
Goals: Williams (56,63)

Castleford tries: Eden (5), Trueman (15,23,32), Minikin (45,79), Shenton (69)
Goals: McShane (16,33,46,70,80)

Teenage half-back Jake Trueman sensationally stepped into Luke Gale's shoes to help Castleford to a 38-20 victory that leaves Wigan's Super League title defence hanging by a thread.

The 18-year-old Trueman, who played in the academy Grand Final at the DW Stadium a fortnight earlier, was drafted in for his full Super League debut on the same ground following the loss of Gale with an appendectomy and he seized his chance in remarkable fashion with an 18-minute hat-trick.

Winger Greg Eden gave the Tigers an early lead with his 38th try of the season, putting him in sight of Denny Solomona's Super League record of 40, before it became the Trueman show as the Tigers romped to a third win of the season over the reigning champions.

Saturday's Super League review

Widnes 38-16 London Broncos

Widnes tries: Whitley, White, Craven (2), Runciman, Mellor (2)
Goals: White (3), Gilmore (2)

London tries: Ioane, Sammut, Dixon
Goals: Sammut (2)

Widnes gave their Super League survival hopes a massive boost with a straightforward 38-16 victory over London Broncos.

Vikings hooker Lloyd White grabbed a 10-point haul and Danny Craven and Joe Mellor both touched down twice as Widnes had too much power for their visitors.

The pressure was all on the Vikings to deliver following last week's slip-up at Hull KR, which saw the Robins promoted to Super League.

It meant there was a determination among the home side that they would not be embarrassed by another Championship club, and four well-worked tries saw them lead 22-6 at the break.

Friday's Super League review

Leeds 44-2 Salford

Leeds tries: Sutcliffe, McGuire, Briscoe, Parcell (2), Cuthbertson, Mullally, Ferre
Goals: Watkins (6)

Salford goals: O'Brien

Super League title contenders Leeds ran in eight tries to end Salford's slender play-off hopes with a thumping 44-2 win at Headingley.

The Red Devils ended their eight-game losing run in emphatic fashion against Huddersfield last week but their season is over after they were blown away by a Rhinos side already guaranteed a home semi-final.

Veterans Rob Burrow and Danny McGuire, who came through the academy together, have combined countless times for Leeds over the years and they gave the Rhinos fans a moment to savour before they both depart at the end of the season.

Burrow made a darting break from dummy half and McGuire was in support to finish as Leeds took a firm grip on the match in the first half.

Liam Sutcliffe and Tom Briscoe scored either side of McGuire's try to give the Rhinos a 16-2 half-time lead after they had gone behind to Gareth O'Brien's early penalty.

Matt Parcell helped himself to a double off the bench to take his try tally for the year to 19 while Adam Cuthbertson, Anthony Mullally and Brett Ferres also crossed as Leeds made it 10 straight home wins over Salford in style.

St Helens 40-16 Huddersfield

St Helens tries: Lomax (2), Grace, Percival, Barba, Morgan, McCarthy-Scarsbrook
Goals: Percival (6)

Huddersfield tries: Roberts, Hinchcliffe, Rankin
Goals: Brough (2)

Australian star Ben Barba turned on the magic as St Helens kept their play-off dreams alive by brushing aside Huddersfield 40-16.

Justin Holbrook's side had to beat the Giants if they had any chance of keeping their Super League season going, and thanks to a vintage Barba display the Saints were a cut above.

Barba was the main tormentor-in-chief as he chimed in from full-back at perfect intervals and scored one of his side's seven tries.

Jonny Lomax crossed twice while Regan Grace, Mark Percival, Ryan Morgan and Louis McCarthy-Scarsbrook also touched down.

Hull KR 19-20 Catalans

Hull tries: Oakes, Cockayne, Lawler
Goals: Dockar-Clay (2), Atkin
Drop-goals: Atkin

Catalans tries: Myler, Thornley, Wiliame
Goals: Walsh (4)

Catalans Dragons staged a tremendous late fightback to earn a precious 20-19 victory over a much-changed Hull KR that boosted their survival hopes.

The dreaded Million-Pound Game beckoned for the French side as they trailed 19-8 but they struck with two tries in the last 10 minutes to edge in front in their must-win Super 8s clash at KCOM Craven Park.

Even then, they needed a huge slice of fortune in the closing moments, with Hull KR half-back Chris Atkin missing with both a penalty and a drop goal to leave the visitors hanging on desperately for a third successive win, which equals their best run of the season.

Leigh 40-6 Halifax

Leigh tries: Clare (2), Reynolds, Brown (3), Hansen, McNally
Goals: Reynolds (2), Drinkwater (2)

Halifax tries: Cahalane
Goals: Tyrer

A hat-trick of tries from winger Mitch Brown inspired Leigh to their first home win in the Betfred Super League Super 8 Qualifiers against Halifax.

The Australian scored two tries in the first half before adding his third midway through the second at the Sports Village as the Centurions kept their hopes of avoiding the Million Pound Game alive with a dominant performance against the Championship side.

Brown's fellow winger James Clare chipped in with two tries as Leigh won 40-6, giving their points difference a much-needed boost ahead of their final qualifier at London next Friday.

Thursday's Super League review

Hull 19-18 Wakefield

Hull tries: Fonua (28), Sneyd (49), Ellis (71)
Goals: Sneyd (29,50,72)
Drop-Goals: Sneyd (75)

Wakefield tries: Arundel (11), Miller (20), Caton-Brown (78)
Goals: Finn (21,39,78)

Hull captain Gareth Ellis provided a precious farewell gift with the all-important try in a 19-18 Super 8s victory over Wakefield that keeps his side on course for the double.

The Challenge Cup winners trailed 12-6 at half-time but drew level early in the second half with a solo try from Marc Sneyd, before Ellis - playing his last home match ahead of his retirement - crashed over for the try that put them in front for the first time nine minutes from the end.

However, the drama continued right to the final whistle as winger Mason Caton-Brown scored Trinity's third try six minutes later and Liam Finn, having added the difficult conversion, failed with a drop goal 18 seconds from the end that would have tied the scores.

Indeed, with referee Phil Bentham unsure, it took video replays to finally determine that Finn's kick went inches wide of the target.

The outcome was tough on Wakefield who were the better side for most of the game but now need neighbours Castleford to beat Wigan on Sunday to keep alive their semi-final hopes.
