Featherstone sign forward Connor Farrell

Featherstone have strengthened their squad for their promotion push with the signing of Wigan forward Connor Farrell.

Farrell, the 23-year-old younger brother of England second rower Liam, has made just nine senior appearances since making his Wigan debut in 2014 and spent the last two seasons on loan at Widnes and Swinton.

Featherstone, who will compete in the Super 8s Qualifiers after finishing in the top four of the Championship, completed the signing before Friday's transfer deadline and announced the deal after their defeat by Toulouse.

Farrell joins Rovers under new coach John Duffy to the end of the season with a view to a permanent move, and tweeted: "My time at Wigan has come to an end but I can't wait to get started @FevRovers #newchallenge."

Wigan rugby director Kris Radlinski said: "Connor is a great young professional and having already worked alongside John Duffy earlier this season, during John's time as Swinton head coach, he was keen to make the move over to Featherstone.

"With us being well covered in the forwards we felt that it was right to allow Connor to make this move."

Duffy said: "Connor is a hard working and very talented professional, who has a big future in the game. We are pleased to have him on board for the rest of the season and look forward to integrating him into the team."
