Verdict

A popular race with the connections of horses as illustrated by the rather sizeable turnout, but for the general public, a low-key and very challenging start to a high profile Saturday Newcastle fixture. In many respects, this is a race which can only be viewed with the future in mind, and even that is clouded for jumping purposes given that it takes place on Tapeta. Chateau Marmont cost a tidy sum (£100,000), but he posted an unspectacular debut, and it's debatable as to whether or not he's capable of winning a bumper. Both Simply Mani and Animated Hero should also make their mark over hurdles with time. Strathy is a notable debutante for Jim Goldie, but with precious little to go on, the Sally Haynes trained ON THE ROX gets the speculative nod; more so if the market speaks positively.
  1. On The Rox
  2. Strathy
  3. Animated Hero
