Built on 2 encouraging runs in November when winning a valuable 2m handicap at Ascot just before Christmas. Turned in a lethargic effort in the William Hill Hurdle at Newbury since and subsequently found to have been suffering from an irregular heartbeat. Wears first-time cheekpieces.

Three-time hurdle winner who shaped very well when second of 18 in Morebattle at Kelso (2m, good to soft) 34 days ago, travelling powerfully and hitting the front a good way out in a strongly-run race. Nudged up 3 lb but could still be on a good mark.

Dual bumper winner who won his first 2 outings over hurdles. Hasn't had to improve to reach the frame in a couple of Graded events since but still brings unexposed potential to this handicap debut.

Has struggled this winter but the fact he ran well in a couple of handicap hurdles last spring provides hope for a revival back from 6 weeks off.

Improver for this new yard after wind surgery, landing 2m handicaps at Chepstow and Fairyhouse (valuable event) towards the end of 2024. His winning run came to an abrupt halt when down the field in the William Hill Hurdle at Newbury but no shock were to bounce straight back.

Fairly useful Flat winner and similar form over hurdles, placing on first 3 attempts before making it fourth time lucky in 2m Gowran maiden last month. Respected handicap hurdle newcomer from a top Irish stable.

Talented but quirky in time with Iain Jardine but has looked much more straightforward for new yard, completing a hat-trick at Musselburgh on New Year's Day. Winning run ended when fourth of 18 in Morebattle at Kelso latest but deserves credit for doing best of those ridden close to a strong pace.

Landed maiden/novice hurdles last term and has made steady progress in handicaps this time round, proving suited by a return to a left-handed track when easily accounting for 6 rivals at Stratford (2m) last month. Raised 11 lb but he could easily have more to offer.

Won maiden and hurdles for David Pipe last spring and back to form for new yard this spring, making all in 2m Newbury handicap 14 days ago. 4 lb higher in a deeper race now.

Back to form when placed in competitive 2m handicaps in recent months, latterly the Imperial Cup at Sandown, leading from approaching the last until close home. Third in this off 6 lb higher last year. Has a tongue tie he wore when winning on Flat in France added to regular cheekpieces. Big player.

Has done well over hurdles but hasn't seen much of the track in recent times. Off for 15 months prior to finishing a creditable second on Cartmel handicap debut last May and absent again since.

Back to winning ways in a small field at Taunton (2m, soft) in February. Creditable seventh of 19 in this race 12 months but suspicion he'll find a few too strong again.

Back on track refitted with a tongue strap in the autumn, winning 2m handicaps Kelso and Wetherby. Stayed on from the rear for a creditable third (Alnilam second) of 18 in the Morebattle at Kelso last time and he's likely to be sticking on late if the leaders go too hard.

Point/bumper winner who is going the right way over hurdles for new stable, winning a 2m maiden and 20.5f novice (both Southwell) last month. Pitched into a very competitive race for his handicap debut but he has potential.

Very useful on the Flat and made a successful return to hurdling at Cheltenham (21f) in November. Disappointed when stepped up to 3m at Musselburgh in February and connections have subsequently had a big rethink on the trip.

Shade unlucky not to have won a race under Rules, going best when falling 2 out in 21.5f Ascot maiden in December. Travelled well long way when fourth on 19f handicap debut there in February and might benefit from this drop back to 2m.

Took advantage of a drop in class at Plumpton (2m, soft) in October but he has struggled since, finishing down the field in the Imperial Cup last time. Others are preferred again.

The stiff finish at Sandown just seemed to find out AFADIL in the Imperial Cup and he can gain compensation for that near miss. Alnilam shaped very well in the Morebattle and ought to find 2m around here playing to his strengths so he's second choice. Slugger, who was a couple of places behind Alnilam at Kelso, Moon Chime and Gordon Elliott handicap newcomer Grimaud also make the shortlist.
