Nights In Venice40
Age: 9|  Weight: 12-0| J: Henry Brooke| T: D W Whillans| OR:  98| D
Fair handicap hurdler who built on an encouraging chase bow when getting off the mark in a 6-runner handicap at Ayr (20.5f, heavy) in February. Almost certainly needed the run after 8 months off at Wetherby last month and better expected now.

Really enhanced his strike rate over fences here last season, winning 3 times. Likely better for his reappearance at Sedgefield and handicapper has eased him 2 lb since, so looks a big player back under ideal conditions.

Pitempton Power46
Age: 10|  Weight: 11-13| J: Craig Nichol| T: Ewan Whillans| OR:  97| D
Back-to-back chase winner in 2021/22 but little to shout about in a very light 2022/23 and returned from long absence with a poor showing over hurdles at Carlisle. Plenty to prove.

Treaty Boyt36
Age: 8|  Weight: 11-12| J: Sam Coltherd| T: W Coltherd| OR:  96
Made a winning chase debut at Catterick in February on final run for Rebecca Menzies and back to that sort of form on fourth start for current yard lately, shaping best (suffered overreach) when fifth at Hexham last time. Solid claims.

Age: 8|  Weight: 11-11| J: D R Fox| T: Miss Lucinda V Russell| OR:  95
Showed form once in four starts over hurdles for Michael Scudamore but has a background in points and a feasible mark, so well worth a market check starting out for new yard after almost 2 years off.

Empty Nestt21
Age: 7|  Weight: 11-8| J: Jamie Hamilton| T: M Walford| OR:  92
9/2 and tongue strap on for 1st time, career best when winning 7-runner handicap chase at Wetherby (19.4f, soft) 21 days ago. Belatedly found it all coming together last time and no reason why he won't go well again.

Age: 7|  Weight: 11-6| J: Theo Gillard| T: A Nicol| OR:  90
Maiden Irish pointer who showed ability in maiden/novice hurdles last winter but hasn't really kicked on, only fourth despite jumping adequately on chasing debut at Musselburgh last time. Others make more appeal.

The Jad Factorp,t40
Age: 9|  Weight: 11-0| J: Ryan Mania| T: A M Thomson| OR:  84| CD
Fair 20f hurdles winner ran well on final outing for Mike Smith and was given a considerate return from 20 months off when fourth at Wetherby last month. Cheekpieces refitted and he's on a good mark.

Fair hurdler/chaser in France but has failed to match that form following 7 starts on these shores. Bit to prove.

Took thirty-seven attempts to get off the mark before recording back-to-back wins at Market Rasen in the spring. Must be respected in hat-trick bid. Very easy to back and not in the same form returning from 9 months off there last month.

Poor maiden who has offered little in 3 outings since returning from a long absence. Big outsider.

Recorded back-to-back wins over hurdles (including at this course) to end 2021/22 but disappointing so far over fences.

Forecasts

Empty Nest (11/8), Treaty Boy (6/1), Heads Or Harps (7/1), Six One Nine (8/1), Nights In Venice (10/1), The Jad Factor (10/1), Iwa (12/1), Brickadank (20/1), Benefit Ben (25/1), Great Raffles (25/1), Pitempton Power (25/1), Wotsmyname (50/1)

Verdict

SIX ONE NINE has a superb record here and should be spot on following a respectable return at Sedgefield, so he gets the nod ahead of Treaty Boy, who shaped best for a long way last time. Empty Nest only won a weak race at Wetherby 3 weeks ago but he remains on a feasible mark.
