Won a maiden on debut for David Pipe at Newton Abbot (18.5f, good) in August but underperformed switched to a handicap following three months off, twelfth of 17 in handicap hurdle at Chepstow (19.4f, good). Wind operation and tongue-tie suggests breathing issue the cause of latest disappointment.

4-time course winner has lost his way, a return to chasing did not spark a revival latest. Back smaller obstacles and tried in first-time visor today but needs to leave recent efforts well-behind him.

On the up at the beginning of 2022, winning handicaps at Huntingdon and Kempton. However, tailed off third and final start in 2022/23 and absent since. Marked should guide as to what's expected on first run for 21 months.

Course winner would be very well treated on his best form but there was little to shout about in 5 runs last season and he resumes from 10 months off with something to prove.

Course winner generally makes the running. Had a fruitful spell landing 5 wins from 6 starts in first half of 2023. Struggled since but step in the right direction latest when third of 11 over C&D 43 days ago, however it could be that this trip does just stretch his stamina. Can make the frame.

Attracted support and showed improved form to make a winning handicap debut at Wincanton (19.8f, good to soft) in February 2023. Shaped as if retaining all his ability on what was essentially his return from an almost 2-year absence at Warwick last month (fourth of 11). Claims here.

Useful 15f winner on the Flat for Andre Fabre in France. Sold for 65,000 gns and readily landed 17f Fontwell handicap hurdle in November. Hung right when an odds-on second at Southwell after and below-par latest fourth of 6 at Lingfield (19.5f, Class 3) but couldn't rule out now back down in grade.

Stepped up on first two hurdles starts when second of 13 in novice hurdle at Southwell (15.8f, good to soft) 29 days ago, shaken up home turn and kept on. Step up in trip looks a positive and each-way claims on handicap debut.

Bounced back to form with his best effort of the season (third of 8 in a female amateur jockeys handicap hurdle at Ludlow 27 days ago) and looks a big player if she can build on that with Sean Bowen taking over in the saddle.

Fair winner at 19f over hurdles who posted solid placed efforts over fences in May. Below form on comeback in November, struggled on final circuit. Should strip fitter on return to smaller obstacles today. Place claims.

Course winner when holding on gamely for success in 2m mares' maiden here (2m, good to soft) in November but finished last season with first poor run over hurdles, not helped by racing too keenly. Needs to bounce back on return.

Forecasts

Officer Of State (7/2), Seek Him There (5/1), Our Bill's Aunt (13/2), Kazontherazz (13/2), Inferno Sacree (15/2), Jet Marshall (8/1), Sirekoff (10/1), A Tickatickatiming (12/1), Storm Dennis (14/1), Casa Loupi (14/1), Alto Alto (20/1)

Verdict

Plenty of these arrive with something to prove, and it might pay to focus on those with some recent form to their name. After a few quiet efforts KAZONTHERAZZ was much more herself when third at Ludlow last month, and she can build on that performance to score under Sean Bowen. Jet Marshall ran well to finish fourth at Warwick after an absence, so he can be in the mix along with Inferno Sacree who has been placed here on his last two runs.
