Useful for Paul Nolan in Ireland but struggled in varied events in 2024. Stable debut looked to be a pipe-opener (eleventh of 14, 16.8f, Cheltenham, 29 days ago) and this yard could easily revitalise him, but he may well need further than this.

Progressive sort who arrives here seeking a four-timer following a career-best when landing a nice pot at Newbury (16.3f, good to soft) 42 days ago, getting first run on runner-up and just kept up to his work late on. Clearly going in the right direction and hard not to see him running well again.

One of three for Harry Derham and back to his best over hurdles for the yard, placed for the third completed start in a row when runner-up at Uttoxeter (19.9f, soft) in May. However, after 6 months off he was well-beaten at Sandown (19.8f) in November (reported to have bled). Bounce back called for.

C&D winner. Only mid-division in a hot Sandown handicap on final run last term but well-backed on his return when winning an 8-runner handicap hurdle at Market Rasen (16.6f, good) by 8 lengths, made all, jumped fluently. Has shown some temperament but is clearly talented and stable jockey rides.

Fairly useful 2m winner over hurdles but didn't really click over fences for Gavin Cromwell. Lots to prove starting out for new yard.

Did well last season, winning novice and handicap hurdle over 17f at Exeter. Made encouraging comeback when fifth of 14 at Cheltenham (16.8f, good to soft) 20 days ago, making big move from rear to head chasing pack (winner had flown), tired late on. Should build on that and is very much respected.

Bumper winner for Willie Mullins prior to winning 3 times over hurdles for N. George & A. Zetterholm in France, showing fairly useful form. Claimed for €21,506 and has joined a yard that has an excellent record with new recruits. Interesting contender.

Fair maiden on the Flat for Richard Hannon and improved with each of his 4 starts over hurdles for previous connections (formerly with David Pipe) prior to very disappointing effort when pulling up at Market Rasen 175 days ago. Makes reappearance for new yard in a competitive enough race.

Won twice over hurdles last season and returned to that sort of form with usual cheekpieces left off when second of 9 in handicap hurdle (11/2) at Huntingdon (15.8f, soft) in November, pulling clear of the remainder. Not seen to best effect upped in trip at Taunton since and back at 2m today.

Ended the last campaign and started the current with good runner-up efforts in competitive 2m handicaps and not disgraced in conditions race (fifth of 8, Cheltenham, raced in snatches). Can put a line through latest effort at Fakenham (made a race-ending mistake) but likely to find a few too good.

Best efforts have come over smaller obstacles, but disappointing on return to hurdles when last of 12 in a handicap hurdle at Cheltenham (20.2f, good to soft) 28 days ago, raced keenly and one paced in home straight. Dropped 4 lb for that effort and is inching towards a workable handicap mark.

Novice hurdle winner last season and second to smart mare at Sandown (2m) in November. Bettered that effort when second at Wincanton (15.2f, heavy) 30 days ago, chased home idling winner. Isn't always the most fluent jumper, but he still seems to be improving.

Usually races prominently and positive tactics saw him come good in this sphere when taking a 2m Newbury handicap in March. Latest second of 14 (under today's conditional jockey) in a handicap hurdle at Chepstow (16f, good to soft) puts him in the mix here, albeit this is a tougher race.

Flat winner who was a ready winner over hurdles at Fontwell in December 2023. Unable to back that up when held in a stronger race the following month but that was only his fourth start in this sphere and interesting to see there if there are any positive market vibes on his return from a year off.

Unreliable type but capable on his day as shown when he resumed winning ways in no uncertain terms at Newton Abbot (16.7f) in August. More miss than hit subsequently and although he wasn't disgraced when third in a 9-runner Wincanton handicap hurdle 37 days ago, more is needed here.

Forecasts

Navajo Indy (7/2), Spirits Bay (4/1), Court In The Act (9/2), Jour D'Evasion (7/1), Bucephalus (10/1), Manuelito (12/1), Monviel (12/1), Ninth Loch (14/1), Soigneux Bell (16/1), Holly (16/1), Latin Verse (20/1), Sergeant (33/1), Balboa (33/1), Joyeux Machin (33/1), Hypotenus (50/1)

Verdict

Very competitive and seemingly plenty of pace on. Harry Derham holds a strong hand and of his three, it could pay to take a chance on NINTH LOCH who had some decent form in France and has joined a yard that excels with new arrivals. Spirits Bay caught the eye on return and he'll be well suited by a truly-run affair here. Progressive 6-y-os Court in the Act and Navajo Indy are both going the right way and can run well in a wide-open event.
