Landed the odds on debut at Wolverhampton 12 months ago and much improved when fourth at Newmarket in April. Well below that level a further 3 months on when last of 6 in handicap at Sandown (14f, good to soft, 4/1) in July and drops back down in trip. Looks yard's second string.

10/3, quickly resumed progress when won 6-runner handicap at Newmarket (12f, good) when last seen in August, seeming suited by the switch to front-running tactics and outbattling the runner-up. Every chance he will follow up from 3 lb higher making his first start on these shores.

Forecasts

Regal Connection (8/11), Kalidasa (5/1), Havandi (10/1), Maydanny (16/1), Valdivia (18/1), Aldhaja (20/1), Thundering (22/1), Deciduous (22/1), New Comedy (25/1), Gareth (28/1), Saqqara King (28/1), Goldspur (50/1), Free World (50/1), Hamaamm (50/1), Inner Peace (50/1), Wild Crusade (66/1)

Verdict

REGAL CONNECTION made a winning handicap debut at Newmarket back in the summer and open to further progress, Charlie Appleby's 4-y-o can follow up on first start on these shores at the expense of Havandi, who falls into the 'could be anything' category having won both starts in Sweden towards the back end of last year. Kalidasa, Valdivia and Aldhaja are a handful of others fancied to be in the mix, too.
