17/2
Grade 2 winner over hurdles in 2023 who was placed all 3 starts over fences earlier this year for Syd Hosie. Stepped up on reappearance/stable debut when landing 3-runner handicap chase at Doncaster a month ago, kept up to work.

11/2
Winning pointer who supplemented his hurdles debut victory at Plumpton when bagging Cheltenham Grade 2 (3m) a year ago. Fourth in Grade 1 Sefton Novices' at Aintree on final outing and has the size for chasing, but he was most disappointing on handicap bow at Uttoxeter. Must be capable of better.

Winner of third start over hurdles and improved when runner-up on handicap debut at Kempton in May. Progressing nicely over fences too, landing a brace of 3-runner contests at Plumpton during the autumn. Likeable type.

Unbeaten in bumpers and, having landed 2 of his first 3 starts over hurdles, he improved further in defeat during the spring. Sound third on return at that is venue having had a breathing op and very much the type to excel over fences. Up in trip with hood off.

11/1
Winner of a novice hurdle during a short stint for Fergal O'Brien during the spring and shaped well on chase debut having rejoined former yard when third of 12 in a Punchestown maiden. Failed to build on that since at up to 25.3f and now goes back slightly in trip.

8/1
Expensive point winner who got off the mark over hurdles at Market Rasen in March. Type to make a better chaser and built on promising Chepstow debut when easily winning 10-runner handicap at Southwell (20.4f, soft) 25 days ago. Remains with serious potential, particularly over this longer trip.

Steadily progressive over hurdles for Chris Gordon last season and sound start over fences for new yard in recent weeks. Now goes up in trip.

10/1
Low-mileage sort who landed 3 of his 6 starts in France. Lightly raced for this yard and shaped like a stayer when third of 9 over 20.2f at Windsor a fortngith ago. Gets that increased emphasis on stamina so not out of this despite being 3 lb "wrong".

Forecasts

Inthewaterside (15/8), Shanagh Bob (11/2), Menaggio (6/1), Theformismighty (8/1), Rock My Way (17/2), Sea Invasion (9/1), Zertakt (10/1), Moon D'orange (11/1)

Verdict

THEFORMISMIGHTY confirmed that he's going to be a much better chaser than hurdler when an easy winner at Southwell at the start of the month, and with this increased emphasis on stamina sure to suit, he holds strong claims. Shanagh Bob will surely show more this time, with Inthewaterside another of interest switched to the larger obstacles.
