Multiple hurdles winner and opened chase account at Sedgefield in October. Last-fence mistake probably cost him when runner-up at the same course next time but he then misfiried tried in cheekpieces (retained here) back hurdling at Carlisle earlier this month. Opposable.

Winner of back-to-back 3m handicaps at Hexham during the summer and placed on several occasions since, including when a clear second to an unexposed novice from the Skelton yard at Carlisle in October. Jumping issues in evidence at Newcastle last time but he could have a say granted a clear round.

Successful twice over fences for previous connections in Ireland. Winning start for this yard in a Kelso hunter in January and stepped up on his reappearance run when third in handicap company at Market Rasen (3m, soft). Place possibilities here off 3 lb lower mark.

From a good jumping family and left his uneventful hurdles exploits well behind sent chasing in first-time cheekpieces at Leicester (22.7f, soft) where he landed an 8-runner handicap in decisive fashion. Gone up 8 lb for that but he's completely unexposed and probably has more to offer.

More good efforts than bad ones to his name over fences and looked better than ever when readily accounting for his 9 rivals at Musselburgh (23.6f, good to soft) earlier this month. Hard to quibble with a 5 lb rise and while more will be needed here, he should make his presence felt.

Failed to trouble the judge over hurdles but more like it with cheekpieces enlisted/sent chasing, placed in pair of Newcastle handicaps during the spring. Unseated both starts at Hexham thereafter but still has time on his side and he is interesting here back from a 7-month break.

Landed a Market Rasen handicap chase off 12 lb higher in February 2021 but seen out just 3 times since and best watched following a 19-month absence.

Gained a deserved breakthrough success for Simon Waugh at Hexham during the spring and posted a good second for his new handler in handicap chase at Sedgefield (26.3f, soft) in October. Excuses at Market Rasen since but his strike rate (1-24) is off-putting in any case.

Winless since May 2023 and while he performed with credit on a couple of occasions for Dermot McLoughlin earlier this year, his second run for present connections at Hexham last month left an awful lot to be desired.

Solid second over hurdles at Carlisle in November and backed that up when again finding just one too good in a Wetherby handicap (19.4f, heavy) on chase debut. However, consistency isn't his forte and it was therefore no major surprise that he followed that with a poor effort at Uttoxeter.

Placed on second of 2 starts in points and also finished in the money in couple of handicap hurdles earlier this year. Form dipped pretty badly in the autumn, though, and he offered little on chase debut at Carlisle 27 days ago.

Poor chaser who was a most fortuitous winner after 6 months off in 4-runner handicap chase at Newcastle (23.4f, good) last month, nearly 50 lengths down when left alone 2 out. Wasn't disgraced in first-time cheekpieces (retained) behind Ribeye at Musselburgh recently but he's opposable all the same.

Just the one win to his name from 26 starts over fences and he looks up against it from 10 lb out of the handicap.

Forecasts

Ribeye (4/1), Emotional Roller (4/1), Catch Catchfire (9/2), Zwicky (15/2), Super Citizen (9/1), Coolmoyne (9/1), Elleon (11/1), Halfway House Lad (16/1), Ocean Legacy (16/1), Poetry Man (20/1), Iturgeon Du Breuil (28/1), Henry Brown (50/1), Archie Brown (100/1)

Verdict

The vote goes to unexposed 5-y-o CATCH CATCHFIRE, who looked a different proposition switched to fences with cheekpieces enlisted at Leicester and, with the promise of better to come, he looks more than capable of following up off this 8 lb higher mark. Super Citizen has been given a chance by the handicapper and he is next on the list ahead of Musselburgh-scorer Ribeye, while Coolmoyne and Elleon are each-way contenders.
