Never been the most reliable and is over 3 years without a win, though ran respectably enough when fourth of 8 in handicap at Pontefract (5f, good) 8 days ago. Mark has edged down further and booking of Norton rates as a plus.

Gained his third win from his last 7 starts when landing a 9-runner handicap at Chelmsford City (5f) 20 days ago. As good as ever on that occasion, so has to be respected from 3 lb higher mark, for all regular slow starts could prove a problem around here.

Goes well at this track and was beaten only a nose by Hyperfocus here (5.5f) earlier in the month. Always on the back foot after a tardy start when 2½ lengths fifth of 8 to King of Tonga in handicap (10/11) at this C&D (soft) the following day and he remains of interest in this company.

Unlucky not to land a hot Chester C&D handicap on return and ran well when third in the 3YO "Dash" at Epsom thereafter. Disappointing both starts since, though, including at Pontefract last week, so now has something to prove.

Took a step forward each time when winning 5f novices at Bath and Wolverhampton in recent weeks before another sound effort switched to a handicap when runner-up at Yarmouth 17 days ago. Has to be taken seriously.

Back to form when runner-up at Windsor (5.1f) in May. Track position offered some mitigation for a below-par display back at Haydock 51 days ago but other still preferred on the back of a wind op.

Third at Lingfield in March but arrives badly out of sorts, his performance very laboured at Windsor last time. Hood on 1st time. Hard to fancy.

Completed a simple task in a Lingfield maiden on final start last year and has produced creditable efforts when runner-up in 2 handicaps so far this season, latterly at Lingfield (5f, good to soft) 17 days ago. Player on form but has widest draw to overcome.

Rattled off a quick-fire hat-trick last summer, including winning over 7f here, but has produced very little to shout about recently and is difficult to fancy with cheekpieces back on.

Forecasts

Dickieburd (15/8), Due For Luck (9/2), Hyperfocus (5/1), King Of Tonga (6/1), The Thames Boatman (7/1), Nazron (15/2), Paws For Thought (8/1), Accrual (9/1), Arecibo (10/1), Almaty Star (10/1), Grace Angel (25/1), G'day Mate (33/1)

Verdict

ACCRUAL remains unexposed as a handicapper and made a pleasing start in this sphere at Yarmouth earlier in the month, so gets the nod over C&D specialist Dickieburd, who can be easily forgiven his odds-on defeat here last time. King of Tonga and the widest-drawn Nazron complete the shortlist.
