C&D winner who found a little improvement to gain a first handicap win in 13-runner event at Uttoxeter (23.3f, good to soft,) 20 days ago. Had plenty in his favour that day but proved game nonetheless and ought to go well again.

Made light of an 11-month absence on debut for Anthony Charlton at Wincanton in January. Sketchy jump at last was probably costly when second to stablemate Tronador starting out for this yard at Plumpton but was unusually flat and ran poorly at Stratford last time. Bounce back called for.

Won 3 times in 2022/23 season. Ran creditably on his reappearance at Huntingdon last season but has been disappointing subsequently, passing only a few beaten horses back from 4 months off at Cartmel 20 days ago. Others more persuasive.

Useful sort at his best who cashed in on a reduced mark when landing a C&D handicap in January but below form in claimer/seller last 2 starts, finding little. Has plenty of work to do.

Has made a promising start for current yard, finishing runner-up in a couple of Southwell handicaps and shaped as if still in good form when fifth of 9 at Uttoxeter (15.8f) last time. Significantly back up in trip and return to less testing ground will suit.

Fairly useful handicap hurdler at best but was well held at Galway (24.3f, soft) when last seen 11 months ago. First run for yard after leaving Gavin Patrick Cromwell and looks best watched.

Untrustworthy individual for Harry Whittington who capitalised on a falling mark at Uttoxeter (19.9f) 20 days ago, kept up to work. However, he's not an obvious type to be in the same form, never mind follow up.

Course winner who got back on the scoresheet in 7-runner handicap hurdle at Hexham (20.1f, good, 15/2) 27 days ago, leading under pressure final 100 yds. That's not form to be getting carried away with, though.

Better than ever when landing 2m4f handicap at Kelso and Uttoxeter in recent months. Couldn't complete the hat-trick at Cartmel but produced another career best in form terms and should give another good account refitted with headgear.

Dual bumper winner who shaped encouragingly once more behind a thriving sort when second of 8 in a novice hurdle at Uttoxeter (19.9f, good to soft) 20 days ago. Remains of interest back in handicap company.

Proved a model of consistency during 2022/23 for this yard, going with loads of zest when running out a comfortable winner at Doncaster (19.4f) in January of last year. However, ran a moody race back from 17 months off at Uttoxeter just under 3 weeks ago.

Came good at the fourth attempt over hurdles when cosily making a winning handicap debut back from 13 months off at Kempton (2m, good) in April and got back on the up despite making mistakes when second at Fontwell (17.7f) last time. Enters calculations.

Improved over hurdles since tongue tied, opening her account at Warwick (21f) in May and finding only another also on an upward curve too strong at Bangor (19.5f) next time. Shaped as if still in good form when fourth to Breaking Waves at Uttoxeter on most recent outing.

Forecasts

Flying Fortune (2/1), Pyffo (4/1), Clararose (13/2), Happy Boy (8/1), Ilanz (10/1), Faithfulflyer (12/1), Breaking Waves (14/1), Belvedere Blast (18/1), Nayati (22/1), Elham Valley (22/1), Good Bye (28/1), Vernon Subutex (33/1), Baron De Midleton (66/1), Silvertown (200/1)

Verdict

A competitive-looking handicap. FLYING FORTUNE shaped encouragingly behind a good prospect that runs in the opening race on the card at Uttoxeter last month and is surely up to winning very soon. Pyffo was seen to maximum effect under a well-judged ride on his most recent outing but showed a good attitude nonetheless and seems highly likely to give another good account. Elham Valley has made a solid start for his new yard and should find the return to less testing ground in his favour.
