Returned from a very long absence to win a 2m novice at this meeting a year ago. Just the one effort of note since but this trip might be more suitable than 3m she raced over latest.

As good as ever when winning at Uttoxeter (15.8) last May and placed at Worcester (20f) on his next 2 starts. Hampered on return to action in April and shaped as though back in top form when fifth last month, emphasis on speed over 2m not ideal. Has to be taken seriously.

Dual-juvenile hurdle winner who struck again in 2m Haydock handicap in the mud in December (now just 1 lb above that mark). Has generally performed with credit since but this trip might just be on his limit. Usual hood removed.

Course winner who didn't really take to chasing at the first attempt here in May but more like it when third in 2m course handicap over hurdles 10 days ago. Looks worth a try over this trip.

Useful hurdler/chaser at his best. Not so good nowadays but landed a Hexham handicap last autumn. Freshened up and fair effort at that venue last month, albeit he was allowed to dictate matters.

It's now been twenty-six runs since his last win back in 2020. Reverted to hurdling after 8 months off, he didn't show enough both starts this spring to think he's about to cash in on his much-reduced mark.

Point winner who posted his best effort in novice hurdles when 6 lengths second of 13 at Kelso (21f, good) in May. Opening mark took a hit and didn't fare as well as may have been expected upped to 23.3f on recent handicap debut.

Four-time course winner who improved to win 15-runner handicap hurdle at Hexham (16.2f, good) last month, always holding on. Ridden with slightly more restraint when runner-up over C&D but it was still a very sound effort. Shortlisted.

Won at Sedgefield and this race in 2022/23. Lost his way towards the end of last year but more positive signs in recent weeks and he now looks ready to strike.

Landed back-to-back Kelso handicaps last September and returned to form with his reappearance behind him when second in 11-runner course handicap last month. In nothing like the same form back here 10 days ago and now back up in trip. 2 lb out of the weights.

Forecasts

Galata Bridge (11/4), Malangen (4/1), The Churchill Lad (9/2), Kajaki (11/2), Tigga Time (8/1), Well Planted (12/1), Condesa (18/1), Dallas Des Pictons (20/1), Darkest Day (22/1), Western Run (25/1), Coral Blue (33/1)

Verdict

KAJAKI is firmly into the veteran stage now but the handicapper has given him every chance and both efforts this season suggest he's in good-enough nick to take advantage. Assuming the removal of a hood doesn't backfire, The Churchill Lad is a big threat, along with Galata Bridge.
