Smart stayer on Flat for Tom Dascombe who reached a similar level over hurdles for present stable last year, winning twice at 2½m. Solid third on return in big field Haydock handicap (3m) on return in May and he's not discounted back on the level.

Useful and consistent gelding who proved he retains plenty of ability when sixth behind the progressive Contact at Haydock (11.8f) last month, understandably a bit fresh on back of 14 months off. 2 lb lower now and every chance he'll be back to his best returned to further.

Enjoyed a cracking 3-y-o campaign, his hat-trick culminating in success in the Melrose (13.8f) at York. Seen only twice last year but firmly back on track this spring, finding only Cleveland too good in last month's Chester Cup. That may not be his limit over marathon trips.

Enjoyed a tremendous 2021, winning a big pot at the Galway Festival and York Ebor Meeting. Stayed on for fourth on his return in the Chester Cup (notably travelled well) and very promising apprentice takes off valuable 5 lb here.

Well backed to land small-field Goodwood handicap (2m) in September. However, under performed in the Cesarewitch final start and not at his best in a couple of 14f so far this campaign. Return to further a plus at least with blinkers/replacing cheekpieces.

Career best when winning this second time up last term prior to find marks in the 100s rather summing him up. Ticking over nicely from easing mark of late though, fifth over inadequate trip at Haydock (11.8f) 17 days ago, and big run expected in refitted cheekpieces.

Useful colt who ended last year in good form on AW and ran right up to best when runner-up in 2m, AW conditions' event on Good Friday, worried out of it late on. However, career-high mark to defy up at this longer trip now.

Useful on Flat for John and Thady Gosden and positive profile over hurdles, third in last season's Triumph prior to dead-heating in Aintree Grade 1 (subsequently demoted). Rates a most intriguing contender reverting back to the level. Tongue tied.

Improved over long distances this season, winning on return at Nottingham before 3 good placed efforts, including when third behind Get Shirty at Hamilton (12f) last month, headed final 50 yds but keeping on. However, revised mark demands more up significantly in trip.

Quirky sort who typically carried head high but that didn't prevent him adding to recent AW wins back on turf at Nottingham (14f) in April. Never involved over 12f here since and his victories have come in single-figure fields. Passed over.

Largely consistent stayer who ended 2021 with success from the front at Haydock (14f) in September. Better for return when second back at that venue 24 days ago but will understandably find bossing this field tougher.

Two from 3 on Flat for Andre Fabre in France. Perfect start over hurdles when landing Naas maiden on belated return in February and novicey mistakes didn't aid his cause on each outing thereafter. Powerful yard have excellent record in this race and he could have plenty more to offer.

Ended last season on the up over 12f, winning 2 of his last 3 starts and picked up where he left to go in again at Epsom (12f) in April, digging deep under pressure. Creditable third at Newmarket (14f) has followed but this even more demanding stepping up significantly in trip.

Progressive sort who had conditions in his favour when landing 14f York handicap on his final start in October. Solid second on return over that trip at Goodwood and this longer trip is well worth exploring but easier ground would suit ideally.

Useful handicapper who won over 2m at Newbury in July but failed to get home at York/Newmarket thereafter last season. Not discredited on return in Grade 2 hurdle at Sandown in April but suspicion is he will come up short in this line up.

Won 3 times on the level (twice for Ralph Beckett) and some promise over hurdles for new yard earlier this year. Solid runners-up efforts both starts over 2m so far this season and whilst this is deeper he's in with a sound each-way shout.

Cashed in off reduced mark to land back-to-back 2m handicaps here/Goodwood last summer. No threat over an inadequate trip on return but never convinced with his application when well beaten at Haydock (2m) since.

Prolific staying handicapper on the level for Ralph Beckett who has developed in to a fairly useful handicapper over hurdles for his present stable, running up to best when second at Catterick (25.3f) in March. Can give a good account back on the Flat.

Verdict

Unsurprisingly a host arrive with claims, including last year's winner RESHOUN. Operating from the same mark, he warmed up for this with an encouraging fifth over shorter at Haydock last month and, with the cheekpieces/return to further both obvious positives, Ian Williams' charge is fancied to make a bold bid to follow up. Irish-raiders Pied Piper and Bring On The NIght are both fascinating contenders and feared, along with Coltrane and Arcadian Sunrise.
