Fair maiden on Flat. Left his hurdling debut form behind when 6¼ lengths third of 14 to Hms Seahorse (4th in Fred Winter yesterday) at Fairyhouse (2m) 37 days ago, but will surely be outclassed here.

Failed to win on the level for David O'Meara but is a half-brother to useful hurdler Metier and has created a fine impression in winning both his starts in this sphere. Not to be underestimated.

Won his first 3 starts over hurdles, including a Leopardstown Grade 2 in taking style on Boxing Day. Clear of the rest when second to Vauban in Grade 1 there last time and likely to progress further.

Won sole bumper in France and has quickly developed into a useful hurdler, shaping better than the distance beaten suggests in the Spring Juvenile in between 2 easy wins. Retains potential.

Runner-up in a 1½m bumper on the second of 2 starts in France and ran a huge race pitched straight in at the deep end on hurdling debut when third to Vauban at Leopardstown. Sure to progress.

Lost his way on Flat but has taken really well to hurdling, making it 5-5 in Grade 2 Adonis at Kempton recently, pushed out. Has more on his plate now but his attitude will stand him in good stead.

Fair on Flat in France and similar form when landing juveniles at Hexham/Aintree (2m) back in June. Failed to kick on thereafter and was well beaten in Victor Ludorum at Haydock won by Porticello.

Left debut form in this sphere well behind to run out a convincing winner at Punchestown in November. Limitations exposed when runner-up to Fil Dor twice since though, and looks vulnerable again.

Useful on Flat and has made a most promising start over hurdles, beating Vauban by ½ length on debut at Punchestown and then following up with ease in a C&D Grade 2. Will go on improving.

Won sole start in France and made it 3-4 for new yard when storming clear to score by 17 lengths in Victor Ludorum at Haydock (15.6f, heavy). Open to more progress and the more rain the better.

Fairly useful 1¾m winner on Flat in France who shaped well behind Knight Salute in the Adonis 20 days ago, every chance when blundered last. Looks promising but this demands more. Hood added.

Useful and progressive on Flat and built on his hurdling debut second to Pied Piper when going one better in fine style in Grade1 Spring Juvenile at Leopardstown (2m). More to come and leading claims.

Forecasts

Vauban (6/4), Pied Piper (7/2), Fil Dor (11/2), Porticello (8/1), Icare Allen (10/1), Il Etait Temps (12/1), Knight Salute (16/1), Doctor Parnassus (25/1), Teddy Blue (40/1), Lunar Power (80/1), Koi Dodville (200/1), Ages Of Man (200/1)

Verdict

VAUBAN won the Spring Juvenile in impressive fashion on just his second start over hurdles, and that looks the best piece of form in the division on either side of the Irish Sea, so he's fancied to prove too strong with further improvement on the cards. The Elliott-trained pair Pied Piper and Fil Dor are fancied to follow him home in that order, while Doctor Parnassus makes appeal at bigger odds.
