Unreliable sort who hasn't really figured in 4 starts since his Wokingham victory at Royal Ascot last June. Probably needed the run on reappearance but others arrive in better heart. Blinkers back on.

Largely performed well in top-end handicaps in the second half of last season, landing a premier handicap at the Curragh. Below best but not knocked about on both starts this year so he may feature.

Smart gelding who landed Coral Sprint Trophy over C&D in October. Mixed record on AW since the turn of the year and he looked a hard ride when only beating one home at Lingfield last month.

Landed this contest 2 years ago and placed twice in similar big fields at this course prior to winning at Kempton in 2020. Has dropped to his last winning mark so is high on the shortlist on return.

Vastly improved when impressive all-the-way winner of Ayr Silver Cup. Didn't fare at all badly against a couple of race-fit rivals after another wind op on return so merits consideration.

Looked a smart prospect as a 4-y-o winning 3 of 4 starts. Last season was disappointing, but ran creditably after 7 months off/a breathing op when runner-up at Ayr 16 days ago. Headgear now applied.

Dual Ripon scorer last August, the latter the Great St Wilfrid and improved further after 7 months off when winning 6-runner Silver Sprint there with bit in hand last month. 4 lb rise looks fair.

Useful performer at 6f/7f in Germany last year but offered little starting out for new connections (picked up for only €15,000) when last at Lingfield in March. Plenty more needed.

Useful handicapper who bounced back to his best returning from 5 months off when winning handicap at Redcar last month. Not in same form at Newmarket since so needs to put that behind him.

Shaped better than the result on occasions last year and having been bought out of David Simcock's yard for 32,000 gns last autumn, finished well when runner-on return/yard debut. Interesting runner.

Verdict

An ultra-competitive sprint handicap with a host in with chances. Preference is for SOLDIER'S MINUTE, who landed this contest back in 2019 and gets the vote to repeat that feat having dropped to his last winning mark of 98. He's gone well fresh in the past and should go close granted a bit of luck in running. Bielsa, Woven, Mr Lupton and Staxton are a handful of others worth considering.

  1. SOLDIER'S MINUTE
  2. BIELSA (IRE)
  3. WOVEN
