Gelded for his debut at Beverley (5f, good/firm) and showed very little in being well beaten and offering very little promise for the future. Awkward away from the start, soon left behind, hard to see much better here.

One of the few 2yo's from this yard to have disappointed on debut, relatively well found in the market at Wolverhampton (6,1f, standard/slow) he showed only inexperience. Soon off the bridle, always behind, may do better switched to turf.

Newcomer, 30,000gns yearling, first foal, dam 2yo 6f winner who stayed 1m. Yard up and running with their 2yo's (had a couple of debut winners), one to take into consideration moreso if there is a positive market move.

Looked awkward on debut (already gelded/wearing a visor), pulled way too hard to do himself justice at Pontefract (6f, good), No surprise to see him fold tamely, one to have reservations about, yard generally doing well with juveniles.

11/10
First 2yo runner of the season for this yard (9-66 with 2yo newcomers since 2015). £20,000 yearling, fifth foal, half-brother to 1m2f-1m4f winner For Pleasure, dam 11,5f winner. Boking of Ryan Moore takes the eye (4-17 for the trainer).

6/1
Newcomer for a yard known for their 2yo's, punching below their weight in that sphere this year though. €25,000 yearling, half-sister to several winners including useful 5f-7.6f winner Sandbetweenourtoes, has to be considered, cheekpieces on.

One of two newcomers from the stable who have found it tough going with 2yo's this year (3-23), only two winning debutants. £20,000 yearling, third foal, half-sister to 2yo 7f winner Bill The Butcher, market to guide as to which is stable number one.

Equiano filly (one of two debutants from the yard), fifth foal, half-sister to three winners, including useful 2yo 5f-6.5f winner Bond's Girl. Dam winner up to 7f (2yo 5f winner), gives yard a decent chance in a race where the newcomers look best.

Forecasts

Method (11/10), Bright Apparition (4/1), Calanais (6/1), Fev Rover (15/2), Branston Lion (10/1), Blades Equal (11/1), Highland Dandy (25/1), Belvedere Blast (100/1), Northern General (100/1)

Verdict

Those that have run have so far shown very little to think that they can take a hand here against some potentially smart newcomers looking at their pedigrees. Trainer Karl Burke already has a Royal Ascot winner under his belt this year with a 2yo landing the Albany Stakes last week and his BRIGHT APPARITION is the suggestion here to make a winning debut. Method a first 2yo runner of the season for Martyn Meade is of interest especially with Ryan Moore booked. Calanais would be another newcomer to note although the Archie Watson stable have suffered a few reverses with well-fancied juveniles this year. The Fahey duo Fev Rover and Blades Equal have the potential to get involved.
  1. Bright Apparition
  2. Method
  3. Calanais
