Fourth to Pinatubo in the Chesham at this meeting last year and ran well in Listed company after; this trip a step into the unknown and given the speed he shows, might struggle to get it; others preferred.

Verboten13
Age: 3|  Weight: 9-3| J: L Dettori| T: J & T Gosden| OR:  95| BF
13/2
Winner on debut ay Yarmouth last year and will be fit after recent fourth to Ziggle Pops at Lingfield (7f), looking very much like a step up in trip would suit; unexposed and yard have good record in the race, so every reason to go well.

Cherokee Trail12
Age: 3|  Weight: 9-2| J: R L Moore| T: J & T Gosden| OR:  94| C
16/1
Winner on first two starts last year (both 7f on quick ground) but didn't really go on from that; better effort from the front when fourth over 10f at Newmarket on reappearance and drop back in trip should suit; may need a bit more.

Age: 3|  Weight: 9-2| J: T Hamilton| T: R A Fahey| OR:  94
66/1
Speedy sort that showed steady improvement throughout last year, culminating in a close third in a valuable sales race at Doncaster in September; must be a question mark over this trip, particularly if the forecast rain arrives.

Starcat12
Age: 3|  Weight: 9-2| J: P J McDonald| T: H Morrison| OR:  94| D
10/1
Winner on debut at Kempton last year and not seen until seventh in the 2000 Guineas two weeks ago, running a better race than finishing position suggests; still unexposed, drops back to handicap company, and has chances.

Khaloosy208
Age: 3|  Weight: 9-2| J: Jim Crowley| T: R Varian| OR:  94
9/2
Ready winner on second start at Wolverhampton, travelled well and came clear late to win with any amount in hand; may well stay a bit further than this but he's bred to be decent, and has to be taken very seriously here.

Kondratiev Wavep13
Age: 3|  Weight: 9-2| J: B A Curtis| T: A W Carroll| OR:  94
50/1
Has run some good races from the front over the past few months, and almost made it home at Lingfield on latest start, denied in the final stride; steps up to a mile today and no guarantees it is what he wants.

Age: 3|  Weight: 9-1| J: Callum Rodriguez| T: K Dalgleish| OR:  93

Winner over sprint trips twice last year, and handles plenty of cut, but lost his form towards the back end of the season and now tries blinkers. That, plus worries over the trip, are enough to make you look elsewhere.

Age: 3|  Weight: 9-1| J: D Tudhope| T: A Watson| OR:  93
80/1
Winner on debut at Sandown last year and a tale of steady progression throughout the year, finishing off with a creditable fourth in a Listed contest at Lyon; can clearly go well fresh, handles some cut, and may have improvement to come.

Best performance to date came when thrashing a moderate field in a novice event at Brighton last year but that form would need plenty of improving on here; handles plenty of cut and trip probably fine.

Path Of Thunderp328
Age: 3|  Weight: 9-0| J: W Buick| T: C Appleby| OR:  92
22/1
Won a couple of small-field novice races at Haydock and Newmarket last year, looking very much like he would get a mile; untried on ground worse than good, which would ask a question if it came up soft, but unexposed and from a powerful yard.

Ziggle Pops13
Age: 3|  Weight: 9-0| J: S M Levey| T: R Hannon| OR:  92
25/1
Kept going the right way as a 2yo and showed he'd trained on when successful at Lingfield on his return, catching Kondriatev Wave in the shadow of the post; needs more again here, and might not want the ground too soft either.

Only had the three starts, and was a ready winner of a Kempton novice on his reappearance last week; connections now reach for the cheekpieces and he has a penalty to carry, but totally unexposed and young rider takes a valuable 3lb off.

Age: 3|  Weight: 8-13| J: R Kingscote| T: Tom Dascombe| OR:  91| D

One win in five starts, but that came at a mile and on soft ground, so any further rain no issue; perfectly satisfactory reappearance run at Newcastle two weeks ago, and should come on for that; lively outsider.

Harrison Point130
Age: 3|  Weight: 8-12| J: Hollie Doyle| T: A Watson| OR:  90
80/1
Twice a winner on artifical surfaces last year, and only beaten ½l in a Listed event at Cagnes-Sur-Mer on final start; may not have as much progression in him as a few here, and yet to race on turf, but chance respected all the same.

Age: 3|  Weight: 8-12| J: R Havlin| T: J & T Gosden| OR:  90

Beat Harrison Point a neck on his second start at Kempton and little in it at the weights again today, but finished off the season with a weak effort on good to soft ground at Newmarket, which would be a worry here; others make a little more appeal.

Age: 3|  Weight: 8-11| J: Oisin Murphy| T: J & T Gosden| OR:  89| BF| C

Winner of only start at 2, although form of that hasn't worked out, and then was turned over at cramped odds at Yarmouth on reappearance; bred in the purple and could be better than that, but there are question marks against him now.

Age: 3|  Weight: 8-10| J: K Shoemark| T: A Watson| OR:  88| D

Winner of three of his five starts so far, last two in small fields, form of those races only modest but on the plus side, already a winner at this trip and handles some cut; not hard to think there are one or two with stronger profiles, though.

Great Ambassador203
Age: 3|  Weight: 8-10| J: Harry Bentley| T: R M Beckett| OR:  88

Didn't have to improve (and didn't) to score at Chelmsford on final start of last year, looked very much in need of a mile there, which he gets today, and has been gelded in the meantime; reasons to think an improved run could be on the cards.

Finest Soundt10(ex 5)
Age: 3|  Weight: 8-9| J: Andrea Atzeni| T: S & E Crisford| OR:  82| D
11/4
Steady stuff in three runs last year but looked a transformed horse after gelding/wind surgery on reappearance when scooting home by 5½l at Haydock in what looked a competitive handicap; only has a penalty to carry, proven with cut, must go close.

All You Wish15
Age: 3|  Weight: 8-8| J: David Probert| T: A M Balding| OR:  86

Won a novice event at Kempton on second start but didn't progress on that when well beaten at Yarmouth on final start of last year; plenty of questions to answer regarding suitability of trip, and likely ground, so others preferred.

Looked useful when winning with plenty in hand on debut at Catterick last year but was well held by Johan on next start, and has ground to make up on a few of these on Lingfield reappearance as well; could improve with some cut though.

Verdict

On the evidence of what we have seen so far, it appears that you need to be taking a position on the stands side, and with that, it may pay to stick with those drawn middle to high. GROVE FERRY might need a bit of luck in running but he very much caught the eye when third on his reappearance run at Lingfield. A step up to a mile should suit, and he can go close. Finest Sound looked a different horse when scorching home at Haydock last week and has chances from a potentially good draw. Class dropper Starcat deserves consideration, and Great Ambassador, from what looks a good draw, has potential for better.
