Couple of wins in small field handicaps/novices last year and ran well in better company after, although limitations rather exposed; not hard to think there's a few too good for him here.

Twice a winner on heavy ground last year and put a poor effort behind him when fourth to Victor Ludorum in the French 2000 Guineas; drop back in trip and first time cheekpieces both appear smart moves, and he looks a big player here.

Two wins from two starts for this potentially top-class performer, ready winner at Newcastle on latest start and had plenty in the tank; bare form needs improving on but there's room for that, and he falls into the "could be anything" bracket.

Looks yard second string but comes here bang fit after being denied by a neck in a Listed race at Leopardstown last week (7f). That form needs improvement but suspiscion is that there's a big run in him, and with fitness assured, may go well.

Didn't need to be at best to score at Newcastle when last seen, but earlier form when second to Threat in the Group 2 Gimcrack at York is top drawer; worry would be the seventh furlong, as he's not short of speed, but class for this not in doubt.

Two wins from two starts so far, and lowered the colours of the well-reagrded Enemy at Yarmouth on latest start; likely to face different ground conditions here and plenty to find on bare form, but churlish to crab what he's done to date.

Impressed with attitude when beating 2000 Guineas runner-up Wichita at Doncaster last year, and might have found 1m/soft ground too far when beaten in the Autumn Stakes on final start; conditions here look fine and looks one of the main players.

Only seen last weekend when a 5¼l 7th to Siskin in the Irish 2000 Guineas, and has run against the best over the past 12 months; won't mind a drop of rain and trip should suit, so if over those exertions, has chances here.

Won first two starts last year and looked very smart when defeating 2000 Guineas fifth Juan Elcano at Newmarket, form after that a bit mixed, but was excellent second in G2 Mill Reef at Newbury; potential for better remains, and can't be discounted.

Wonderfully consistent sort that tried really hard last year, and was rewarded with placed efforts at Group 3 level four times; overall form leaves him short but handles most ground and outrunning big prices is very much his thing.

Only beaten a length in the Windsor Castle last year, that coming on the back of a debut win at Salisbury; questions over whether 7f will be his optimum trip, given the speed he showed last year, and on balance, others preferred.

Good efforts at Listed/Group 3 level last year and reappearance fifth at Newcastle in the Pavilion gave notice he had retained his ability; won't mind a drop of rain and if he can eke out a bit more, has place chances at worst.

Comes here race fit after a spring campaign in Meydan and then an excellent fourth to Love in the 1000 Guineas, showing good speed and this drop back to 7f looks a smart move; one of the main players on form and should be thereabouts.

Forecasts

King Leonidas (9/4), Monarch Of Egypt (4/1), Celestin (9/2), Molatham (11/2), Final Song (8/1), Repartee (14/1), Mystery Power (18/1), Ropey Guest (33/1), Lord Of The Lodge (33/1), Symbolize (40/1), King Of Athens (40/1), Fleeting Prince (50/1), Above (66/1), Mister Snowdon (66/1), Ventura Lightning (80/1)

Verdict

A bit of rain would probably enhance CELESTIN's chance but good ground is probably fine, and the drop back to 7f looks a smart move after seemingly not quite getting home in the Poule D'Essai Des Poulains. He can come out on top at the expense of Molatham, another for whom this trip is probably ideal and Jim Crowley could continue a great week. King Leonidas faces his stiffest task to date but at this stage, is open to any amount of improvement. Monarch Of Egypt makes a quick reappearance and isn't discounted, and for those wanting something at a huge price each-way, Ropey Guest will strain every sinew for you.
  1. Celestin
  2. Molatham
  3. King Leonidas
