£40,000 yearling, half-brother to useful 2yo 5f winner Bomb Proof. Dam 1m2f winner. Beaten ¾L into third on debut at Newmarket (6f). Just outstayed there so this drop in trip should help but will need to improve for that outing.

Air Force Blue colt out of an Unbridled's Song mare and closely related to a number of winners. Travelled strongly throughout when making a taking winning debut at Navan (5f) last week. Yard have won this twice since 2015. Shortlisted.

Well bred colt whose dam was a Group 1 winner as juvenile. Shaped with promise when second at Haydock (6f, good to soft) last week beaten 4½L. Needs to have improved plenty for that experience to shake up the market leaders.

£60,000 yearling by Mehmas out of an Arcano mare who won over 1m. Ran a nice race at Newcastle (5f) 15 days ago to finish third after missing the break, beaten just 1L. Should go on from that but others have stronger claims in this line-up.

£20,000 yearling, first foal out of a mare who was a 5f winner. Beaten just ¾L into second on debut at Newmarket (5f) two weeks ago. He knew his job that day and may have got the run of the race in leading against the stands rail (Tactical third).
€250,000 yearling; half-brother to four winners between 5f-1m2f. Restless in the stalls and no match from Chief Little Hawk at Navan (5f) last week but that was still a fair effort. Yard's juveniles can improve hugely for a run so not dismissed.

Well backed and duly obliged in fine style when annihilating the opposition at Lingfield (6f) on debut, 12 days ago by 7½L. That performance gives him leading claims if he can repeat the dose now down in trip and switched to turf.

£27,000 yearling, half-brother to three winners. Made all on debut 15 days ago at Newcastle (5f) to win by a neck. The track favoured those on the pace at that time but he could do no more than win and he should be able to improve on that.

70,000gns yearling; fifth foal; half-brother to three winners. Was green on debut at Newcastle (5f) recently and outpaced before plugging on to finish fourth. Should have learnt plenty for that run but needs to a big jolt of improvement here.

$120,000 yearling; half-brother to dirt 5½f 2yo/7f stakes winner Never Gone South. Shaped promisingly at Churchill Downs (4½f, dirt) last month when second but was no match for the winner. Yard have won this twice since 2009 and needs respecting.

10,000 gns yearling; dam won over 7f. Did well to win at Wolverhampton (5f) last week after an awkward start and racing greenly. He should be able to build on that but it didn't look a strong race and others have better claims.

First foal; dam (Make Fast) was useful for this yard (twice Listed placed). Unlucky on debut at Newmarket (5f) when third and may well have gone close but for being bumped and hampered in the closing stages. Eyecatcher there and shortlisted here.

Mayson colt from a tough dam (5f-6f winner). Finished second after missing the break at Newcastle (5f) recently but was no match for the reopposing winner (Macho Pride). Should win races in time but this looks too hot.

£1,000 yearling; half-brother to five winners between 5f-1m. Beaten ½L at Lingfield (5f) last Thursday, showing plenty of pace in the process. The bare form looks short of the standard required here, however, and would be a surprise winner.

Half-brother to a couple of winners including Al Ozzdi (twice a Tapeta winner); dam 2yo 5½f winner. Won what looked a well-contested race at Newcastle (5f) 15 days ago pretty comfortably and shouldn't be too far away with natural improvement.

185,000 gns yearling; from a speedy & precocious family. Blinkered on debut at Yarmouth (5f) last week and won going away from three rivals. Hard to assess that form in this context but he's in good hands a big step forward would be no surprise.

Dandy Man filly who fetched 25,000 euros as a yearling; related to plenty of winners up to a mile. Very keen and very green on recent debut at Lingfield (5f). Didn't look devoid of ability but unlikely to be up to this level at this stage.

Half-sister to 6f/6½f dirt winner K Choice; dam 5½f turf winner. Ran on strongly from mid-division to win at Gulfstream Park (4½f, dirt) seven weeks ago by 1½L. Blinkers added for a yard with a tremendous juvenile record at this meeting.

Verdict

With four wins in the race between them, none of the Aidan O'Brien (Chief Little Hawk and Hyde Park Barracks) or Wesley Ward (Sheriff Blanco and Sunshine City) runners can be dismissed after promising form from them all. Mighty Gurkha was the most visually impressive of these when winning by over seven lengths at Lingfield whilst Victory Heights was a taking winner on debut at Newcastle. Those aside, the selection is TACTICAL for Andrew Balding. He may well have won on debut at Newmarket but for being bumped and hampered and shouldn't be far away with a better passage here.
