Handicap newcomer, stepped up in trip (8.3f, heavy) at Nottingham for his final 2yo start (made the most of his experience). Should appreciate this further step up in trip although it is quite a leap, mark looks fine but isn't too generous.

Just two starts to his name so hard for the handicapper to get a handle on; tongue-tie on first-time. Promise in two backend Newmarket maidens (1m/1m2f), needed experience both times, further progress likely up in trip for handicap debut.

Stable flying since resumption; looks a slow-burner, may well improve for first foray into handicaps (cheekpieces worn last time retained). Now gelded, will also be his initial turf start (well-bred), looks the type to improve for this sort of test.

Progression from race-to-race was evident as a 2yo; gelded since third at Wolverhampton (9.5f, standard) in November. Form of that AW novice is hot (first, second and fourth all won next time); obvious improver into handicaps for first time.

Twice ran below his debut 2yo form (showed plenty of ability at Yarmouth, 7f, good/firm initially) although that brace of starts came on testing ground. May be seen in a better light going in handicaps; does meet some progressive types.

Verdict

Despite a couple of ground-related non-runners this looks a tough heat; the remaining quintet all making their handicap debuts. Ralph Beckett’s yard have burst into life this past week and his Grain Of Sense is the most unexposed given he’s only had two runs so far showing promise in both. The Gosden team are also in rude health and his 3yo handicap newcomers have a 5-12 record at Doncaster since 2015 so Indigo Lake has to be respected despite needing to improve a little. The form shown by FAVORITE MOON at Wolverhampton looks rock solid with the two that beat him having won and come second in 3yo handicaps already. Zagalo adds even more depth to a competitive heat despite the small field.
