One of two that the stable run in this (had a quiet period since resumption); fair maiden but looked to have gone the wrong way when last seen (beaten in AW seller). 8lb lower than when last in a handicap, unconvincing over 6f, others appeal more.

Returns from an absence/wind op; yet to return a placed effort in four starts on the AW. Made little impression on his handicap debut, now tries turf/drop back to 6f for the first time, dropped 2lb from that first effort, more needed to convince.

5f winner on Tapeta on her second start dropping down 3f from debut; kept to synthetic surfaces after that at sprint trips. Offered some encouragement recently over 5f (looks inadequate trip), will prove one to keep an eye on back at 6f, dropped 2lb.

First run for this yard and gelded (yet to be placed in six starts); only has one standout effort to his name (third at Ayr, 6f, heavy). Disappointed since then but does need to take a step forward to get competitive even off a career-low mark.

Modest form in three unplaced turf efforts over sprint trips last year (not seen since last summer). Best effort over 6f, now goes handicapping for the first time although she hardly looks well-treated off this mark, needs to show more.

Showed enough on her debut when finishing third at Salisbury (6f, good) despite looking inexperienced. Well backed on her next start (switched to AW), ran well but failed to settle (finished held), handicap debut (mark looks fine), improving sort.

Offered something to work on in both starts as a 2yo starting over 7f on Fibresand (made running). Tried over 5f when last seen in a Hamilton novice on heavy; ought to be suited by this trip, hardly thrown-in but mark is a feasible one for handicaps.

One of the more experienced in the field (had nine as 2yo); won a nursery off 1lb lower at Brighton (6f, good). Below form both subsequent starts switched to AW, may be suited by a return to turf (best on good ground); needs to bounce back.

Promise shown on his nursery debut at Newcastle (6f, slow) hinted that he was capable of winning such an event (finished runner up). Went one better next time over the same trip at Kempton; up 3lb, should be competitive, yet to beat a rival on turf.

Took a big stride forward when third on her penultimate start at Newcastle (6f, standard). Confirmed that form on nursery debut, dropped 2lb for her return to action (well behind one previous run on turf); questionable if there is much more to come.

Handicap newcomer (yard also run Mr Fudge); yet to hit the frame in three starts (all as a 2yo); plenty of speed on his pedigree so surprising his first two efforts were at 7f. Best run at 6f, been gelded, remains capable of better in handicaps.

Of interest on pedigree (brother to useful sprinter Fly On The Night, dam related to some smart sprinters); modest form in two starts. Knew his job better on second start at Thirsk (5f, soft), gelded for handicap debut, could have more to offer.

Forecasts

Sports Reporter (7/2), Gossip (4/1), Foreshore (9/2), Stittenham Wood (13/2), War of Clans (11/1), Youneverletmedown (12/1), Shadow Leader (14/1), Jems Bond (16/1), Trevie Fountain (16/1), Mr Fudge (22/1), Somekindasuperstar (33/1), Ebony Legend (33/1)

Verdict

A typically hard to unravel 3yo handicap with a fair smattering of those making their debuts in this sphere. Of that group Sports Reporter and Shadow Leader can be expected to do better now they go handicapping especially off fairly low marks. GOSSIP also steps into handicaps for the first time with the assessor having little evidence on which to base his mark which could mean she’s let in lightly after just two starts. Jems Bond has a least won a race but he does have to prove himself on turf whilst Youneverletmedown shaped well enough over 5f on Tapeta last week shaping as though a return to 6f would suit with her fitness assured.
