Winless in 2019, but back to best when taking Listed race at Wolverhampton on his return. Well placed for that victory, and more required under a penalty in a stronger race.

Smart on his day, but inconsistent, winning a fast-ground 7f handicap at York last May. Below form since, albeit not disgraced behind Urban Icon on his reappearance at Wolverhampton in March.

Won a Group 3 over extended 7f here exactly two years ago, but not taken much racing since late-2018, suggesting he's been hard to train. Is a reliable sort who tends to go well fresh, though, so hard to rule out.

Won the German 2000 Guineas last season, and best effort thereafter when placed in Group 1 Prix Jean Prat. Form has been rather mixed since, and needs to bounce back after a poor run on his final 3-y-o start.

Best efforts last year when a close fourth in the Group 1 Sussex Stakes and third in Group 2 Celebration Mile, both at Goodwood. Not disgraced in QEII Stakes at Ascot on final start, and has form claims if coping with drop back to 7f on return.

Consistent and classy handicapper at 7f/1m, winning at Ascot (7f) in October. Arguably best in a big-field scenario, but worth his place in this line-up, for all he appears more or less fully exposed.

Revels in testing ground, winning this race and the Group 3 John of Gaunt Stakes here in the mud in 2019. Better than ever when third in QEII Stakes on final start, and further rain would boost his chances.

Mudlark who was a tad disappointing in a Group 3 here behind Safe Voyage last term, but back to best when dead-heating in Listed race at Salisbury. Unruly before running below par at Newbury in July, and better than that effort would suggest.

Runner-up in Group 2 Jersey Stakes and placed in Group 1 Prix Jean Prat and Prix Maurice de Gheest last year. Probably best to forgive his return over shorter at Meydan, and was a Listed winner on this corresponding weekend 12 months ago.

Placed in Group 3 Abernant Stakes and Group 2 Duke of York Stakes over 6f last spring, but not seen since running poorly at Royal Ascot. Stays this trip, but all career wins over shorter, and has a bit to prove on balance.

Forecasts

Space Blues (5/2), Safe Voyage (10/3), Happy Power (7/2), Urban Icon (7/1), Mubtasim (7/1), Lord Of The Lodge (8/1), D'bai (12/1), Kynren (12/1), Snazzy Jazzy (25/1), Cardsharp (25/1), Fox Champion (28/1), Yafta (40/1)

Verdict

Last year's winner Safe Voyage must be high on the shortlist, especially as he improved again at the back-end of the season, but SPACE BLUES is at least his equal on paper, and will benefit from the return to this trip after an underwhelming return in Meydan. Happy Power is the other with Group 1 form, but the drop back from a mile might just count against him at this track, having finished a fair way behind Space Blues when the pair met in the 2019 Jersey Stakes.
