Consistent, without winning, on the AW (1m-1m3f) during the early months of the calendar year; 3lb higher than when successful over today's trip at Salisbury (1m2f, good) last September; chance.

Veteran; rated 22lb higher on the AW than on turf; runner-up to the John Gosden-trained Harrovian in a Class 3 Yarmouth handicap (1m2f, good to firm) on his latest start on turf back in September 2019.

Held her fairly form well towards the tail-end of last season after landing the odds in a Kempton novice median auction (1m4f); still retains the potential for further improvement (after ten starts); one of the likelier candidates.

Twice a winner in South Africa (as a juvenile); has gradually been some cut some slack by the handicapper from what was a difficult looking opening GB handicap mark; made the frame at Wolverhampton (1m1½f) in March.

Gelded prior to making a winning return from a six-month absence at Chester (1m2½f, good) last September; disappointing back there a fortnight later and arguably has a few questions to answer; notable jockey booking (James Doyle).

C&D winner (May 2017); out of sorts when last in action on the AW in November after earlier winning on turf at Sandown (1m2f, good); remains on a feasible mark, albeit others appear to be much safer options.

Medalla De Oro83
Age: 6|  Weight: 9-6| J: J Mitchell| T: H Whittington| OR:  77| D

Versatile type (4-25 on the Flat; turf); well supported when making a winning stable/hurdles debut at Fakenham in March; wouldn't be at all hindered should the forecast showers materialise; needs considering.

Heart Of Soulp250

Sole win in 17 career starts came when making all over 1m4½f at Chester (heavy) in May 2019; ended last season on a downbeat note, so needs to bounce back to something akin to peak form off a 250-day absence.

Esprit De Baileys87
Age: 8|  Weight: 9-5| J: Lewis Edmunds| T: Miss A Murphy| OR:  76| BF
25/1
Largely consistent for Amy Murphy and does possess a willing attitude; versatile in terms of both trip and discipline - won a 2m+ novices' hurdle at Doncaster (good) in December 2018; evidently badly needed the run at Stratford latest.

Eight-race maiden; turned in a career best performance (only beaten approx 2L) when fourth to the Clive Cox-trained Stay Chill at Ascot (1m, good to firm) last July; seemingly has no issues with this longer trip.

Made the frame at odds of 66-1 in the 2018 Sandringham Stakes (1m) at Royal Ascot; that said, was winning for the first time in over two years when scoring at Brighton (1m2f, good to firm) last September; sits 3lb higher; stablemate of Geranium.

Age: 5|  Weight: 9-1| J: Charlie Bennett| T: H Morrison| OR:  72| CD
16/1
Was completing the hat-trick when an easy 6L winner (1m2f; Cl 5) on the July Course in late August 2019; higher in the weights now as a result and flopped on the AW when last in competitive action; stablemate of Escape The City.

Forecasts

Inclyne (3/1), Involved (11/2), Starfighter (6/1), Escape The City (13/2), Medalla De Oro (15/2), Pactolus (11/1), Geranium (16/1), Givinitsum (16/1), Zzoro (18/1), Baryshnikov (20/1), Esprit De Baileys (25/1), Heart Of Soul (28/1)

Verdict

A relatively low-key finale with a weekend of Classic action ahead on Newmarket's Rowley Mile. Pactolous looks to be well-handicapped (assuming that he can translate his AW form back to turf), while the versatile Medalla De Oro makes appeal in the place market at fairly rewarding odds (especially if the forecast showers do arrive). However, the pair to focus upon are probably Starfighter and INCLYNE. Andrew Balding's four-year-old filly retains potential for additional improvement (has made just ten career starts) and therefore is the suggested play.
  1. Inclyne
  2. Starfighter
  3. Medalla De Oro
