Born A King221
Age: 3|  Weight: 9-5| J: James Doyle| T: W J Haggas
9/2
Shaped nicely when staying on from the rear to take fourth in a late season Doncaster maiden last year, and that race has thrown up winners; likely to do better this season.

First Receiver210
Age: 3|  Weight: 9-5| J: R L Moore| T: Sir Michael Stoute| OR:  88
11/8
Has experience of the track after finishing second here in November, although that in itself wasn't necessarily an improvement on his debut at Newmarket last July; still looks one of the leading contenders if negating a tricky draw.

Horse silk
250/1
Half-brother to Falt/hurdles winner Oxford Blu, and this trip likely to prove too short on debut for a yard that rarely have debut winners.

Mr Poy301
Age: 3|  Weight: 9-5| J: Oisin Murphy| T: H Morrison
6/1
Likely to prove best over more of a trip than this later in the season, being closely related to the smart 12f winner Saddlers Quest; shaped well on debut, staying on well after encountering trouble at Newbury for second; has chances.

Our Lad
Age: 3|  Weight: 9-5| J: Rob Hornby| T: M R Channon
150/1
€36,000 yearling that is a half-brother to a sprint winner in Baby Gal; might find this a bit too tough on debut unless market suggests otherwise.

Paxos104
Age: 3|  Weight: 9-5| J: Tom Marquand| T: E Walker
40/1
Bred to want this trip as a minimum, dam being a half-sister to the useful stayer Watersmeet; second to Arctic Vega on debut here in February, the pair clear; likely to improve and could give them all something to think about.

Age: 3|  Weight: 9-5| J: S M Levey| T: R Hannon
12/1
Cost £85,000 as a yearling and there was plenty of promise in his debut second at Newmarket last November, knew his job and kept on well; the sort to do better again this year.

Horse silk
66/1
Not cheap at $200,000 as a yealring, unraced at two; bred in the purple, dam a 10f-12f winner (including the Ribblesdale) and a half-sister to Irish 2000 Guineas winner Power; market likely to prove very useful as to chance.

Horse silk
33/1
Sister to useful 1m winner Aegeus, and a half-sister to another staying winner in Postulation; ran well to finish third on debut at Newcastle in February considering plenty went wrong; will known more here, and worth consideration.

Deft
Age: 3|  Weight: 9-0| J: Harry Bentley| T: R M Beckett
40/1
Related to a few useful sorts, including smart miler Skilful and Oaks winner Talent; yard tend to let them find their feet but being so well bred, is worth a second look in the market at least.

Forecasts

First Receiver (11/8), Born A King (9/2), Imrahor (9/2), Mr Poy (6/1), Photograph (12/1), Defence Girl (33/1), Paxos (40/1), Deft (40/1), War Cross (66/1), Silver Imperial (100/1), Our Lad (150/1), Lanzealot (250/1)

Verdict

This looks a hot little race on paper, with many of these having appealing pedigrees and profiles. As ever in these events, the market is going to prove informative. First Receiver just about has the best form in the race but Imrahor's debut effort wouldn't be far behind, and both can make their presence felt. Born A King shaped well on his debut too, but MR POY looks the type to do a lot better this year, and given little was seemingly expected from his debut at Newbury, to finish second was a very good effort. He can take this en route to better things.
  1. Mr Poy
  2. Imrahor
  3. Born A King
