Good third in a Grade 2 hurdle over 2m1f at Cheltenham (soft) in December but was held when finishing fifth in a Grade 1 over this C&D later that month. Better expected on his return from a break.
Making his debut for this stable when beaten 32L in finishing sixth in a Grade 1 over C&D on soft ground in December. Interesting to see how he fares on this occasion.
Returned from wind surgery with a victory in a Listed handicap chase over 2m1f at Ascot (good-to-soft) in November. Good 12L second over the same C&D subsequently and market support would be notable on first hurdles start in nearly three years.
C&D winner took this race, held at Wincanton on soft ground two years ago. Has run well fresh in the past and has had wind surgery since finishing seventh at Newmarket (1m6f, good-to-firm) on his most recent start in July 2018.
In good form this campaign including when finishing 1L second over an extended 2m3f at Ascot (heavy) in a Grade 3 handicap last month. Remains open to improvement and holds strong claims once more.
Dual winner over hurdles in France last season but unseated having been headed in a mares' hurdle at Wetherby (2m, soft) on stable debut in November. Probably best watched having finished fourth of five at Sandown (2m, heavy) earlier this month.
Forecasts
Song For Someone (11/8), Ch'tibello (3/1), Diego Du Charmil (4/1), Elgin (6/1), Quick Grabim (11/1), Zambella (25/1)
ELGIN saw off Ch'tibello in this race two years ago and he can make his first start since summer 2018 a winning one by registering a second victory in this Grade 2 hurdle. The selection can get the better of Dan Skelton's nine-year-old who can return to form having finished held in a Grade 1 here last time out while third place can go the way of Song For Someone who placed in a valuable handicap at Ascot on his most recent outing.
