Grand front-runner that wears his heart on his sleeve, usually keeping the highest of company; ran well here on seasonal debut last year and won't mind any more rain, so has chances if slipping them early.

Will appreciate the drop back into handicap company after seeing the back end of Altior three times last year; very useful chaser when on song, trip ideal although wouldn't want a lot more rain, and might need this first run of the year too.

Imperial Presence178
Age: 8|  Weight: 11-10| J: M G Nolan| T: P Hobbs & J White| OR:  148| BF

Steady improvement through 2018 but two starts in this calendar year have left plenty to be desired; has gone okay after a break before, but this trip looks on the short side for him and on balance, others are preferred.

Age: 5|  Weight: 11-9| J: Tom Cannon| T: A King| OR:  147| D

Was probably over the top for the year when disappointing at Ayr on final start as he'd looked a progressive novice before that; might need this after a break though, and any more rain possibly against him.

Caid Du Linp,t21
Age: 7|  Weight: 11-8| J: Charlie Hammond(3)| T: Dr R D P Newland| OR:  146| CD

Seems to reserve some of his best efforts for Ascot, and warmed up for this with an excellent effort at Chepstow last month; has little in hand of Speredek on their running here last year but has fitness on his side, and looks a player.
6
Horse silk
Clondaw Castle210
Age: 7|  Weight: 11-6| J: J J Burke| T: T R George| OR:  144
4/1
Twice a winner in small fields last year, making all to win at Huntingdon and Leicester, and then ran a cracker in the Arkle to finish a solid fourth; may need this after absence but an interesting one to watch this season all the same.
7
Horse silk
Capelandt216
Age: 7|  Weight: 11-5| J: Bryony Frost| T: P F Nicholls| OR:  143
8/1
Probably a few too many runner-up efforts on his card to be totally confident about his chances but has plenty of ability when on song, has gone well fresh and seems to handle most ground; not discounted but others make more appeal.

Horse silk
Champagne At Tara125
Age: 10|  Weight: 11-2| J: R P McLernon| T: Jonjo & A O'Neill| OR:  140| D
16/1
As tricky a customer as you'll come across, needs to be held up for a very late effort but does have a couple of decent efforts here to his name and has gone okay after a break before. Might not want much more rain though.

Age: 6|  Weight: 11-0| J: Bridget Andrews| T: D Skelton| OR:  138| BF

Wins have come in small fields and in lesser company, and now needs to bounce back from a disappointing effort at Ludlwo when last seen; possible a break has done him good but this is tougher, and he needs more all the same.

Caltext1211

First start for this yard, showed ability over fences last year and far from disgraced in a hot handicap at Aintree on final start; could be more to come this time around, but likely to need further all the same, and may need this after a break.

Yorkist17
Age: 11|  Weight: 10-6| J: Conor Shoemark| T: D Skelton| OR:  130| D

Best years behind him now but can still mix it in good handicap company, although recent efforts rather suggest he's off the boil at present; not that hard to look elsewhere for the winner.

Horse silk
Cap St Vincent23
Age: 6|  Weight: 10-5| J: Alan Johns| T: Tim Vaughan| OR:  129
7/1
Quietly progressive over the last twelve months and created a very good impression when successful at Exeter last time out; 10lb rise for that and in a better race here, but yard going well, and looks a big player again.

Forecasts

Clondaw Castle (4/1), Speredek (9/2), Caid Du Lin (5/1), The Last Day (6/1), Diego Du Charmil (13/2), Cap St Vincent (7/1), Capeland (8/1), Hatcher (12/1), Ballywood (12/1), Champagne At Tara (16/1), Imperial Presence (20/1), Caltex (50/1), Yorkist (50/1)

Verdict

No shortage of pace on here, with Speredek looking to put these to the sword from the start. He could make all, despite the welter burden to carry, and should not be dismissed lightly. His old rival Caid Du Lin will appreciate a good pace to come off but he's not the only one, and the fast-improving CAP ST VINCENT is taken to pick them off late from his feather weight. He looked good when successful at Exeter and should have more in the tank. The Last Day is an unexposed sort that won't mind any more rain, and the Evan Williams yard are going well, so should be given consideration too.
