Began climbing back in right direction when second at Goodwood and York in August, but dipped below that last time. Each-way claims if back on song.

Went close with an eyecatching debut at Newbury in July, but couldn't go on from that when racing freely last time. Holds Group 1 Dewhirst and Futurity entries, but needs to bounce back with a big run here to justify that.

0-8 but placed in all but one of those. Cheekpieces swapped for visor, but might find a few too good.

Won a Musselburgh maiden two starts ago (7f, good). Heavy ground a possible excuse last time. Not without each-way appeal if he can bounce back.

Won a Hamilton maiden in June, but not managed to go on from there. Cheekpieces need to have a very positive effect to see him get seriously involved.

Has run well in the mud on his last two starts and aside from faster ground here, his level of form so far requires improving on to see him get competitive.

Keeps improving. Won a 7f Doncaster novice event (good to firm) in July and bettered that on both runs since, the latest in a conditions race (6f) back at that venue. Looks a serious player.

Won the Hilary Needler (now a conditions race) at Beverley in June (5f, good) and then 2L second in a Deauville Group 3. Not as good on either start since, giving her a bit to prove, but at the same time can't be ruled out.

Not disgraced in a couple of Group races on her last two starts. Slight drop in grade may help and she has an each-way squeak.

Dual fast ground winner, the more recent in a valuable York event in August, which she won decisively. Deserves to take her chance here. Improvement anticipated. Looks a serious contender.

Best of his three efforts so far was on debut, but very difficult to see him getting competitive based on his last two outings.

Won his first two starts at Brighton and Wolverhampton. Went close in an Ayr handicap off a mark of 86 in July, but well held in both Listed company and a decent Goodwood handicap, and this looks a bit too tough.

Carlisle debut winner (6f, heavy) and did well when 3¾L fifth of 11 in an Ayr Group 3 last month. Slight drop in grade, plus another racing experience, may help her. Each-way claims.

Won a Sandown Listed event (5f, good) in May. Competitive on most starts since, including when a neck second in this grade at Ayr last time. Slight question to answer regarding fast ground, but should be competitive if he acts on it.

Improved each time during a spell of three successive seconds, all over this trip, in the summer. Frustrating for supporters that he didn't manage to convert one of those. Slightly below that level last time. Each-way claims.

Keeps nudging up the bar and has won two of her last three, both over 5f. Steps up to 6f for the first time here and does not look out of place in this line-up. Each-way appeal.

Off the mark at the fourth attempt at Nottingham (6f, good to firm) in August and bettered that over slightly further at Doncaster last time. With further similar improvement, she has the potential to make an impact.

Verdict

A typically tough renewal with Kodyanna a likely player, Strict Tempo a potential improver who could get involved, Vintage Brut a contender for a trainer that won the 2012 and 2013 runnings, and Red Balloons among those with decent claims. However, SWISSTERIOUS looked well suited by the drop to this trip when scoring last time and Karl Burke's improving colt gets the vote.
  1. Swissterious

  3. Kodyanna
