12L ninth in this last year (heavy) behind Harry Angel, but is a Group 1 winner and was beaten less than 2L at this level in the July Cup (6f, good to firm). Not as good last time, but acts on good to soft and each-way claims if bouncing back.

Won a conditions event (7f, good to soft) at this meeting last year and returned to win over C&D (heavy) next time in a handicap. Not far off that level when ½L fourth in Group 2 at Goodwood last month. Work cut out back over 6f at this level.

Goes on any ground and on his day is simply the best horse in this field by some margin. Excuses when lame last time in the Golden Jubilee, but won this convincingly last year and if within a few pounds of his best, he will be very hard to beat.

Has won back-to-back 7f Group 2s on his last two starts and has already been held by Harry Angel twice over this trip this season. Nonetheless, he is better equipped than most to try to challenge him and has genuine each-way claims.

Won the Group 2 Duke Of York Stakes last year (6f, soft) and beaten just a neck in last year's Group 1 Diamond Jubilee. 4L second in this 12-months ago. Only seen once ths season and now the rain has come, he is another with genuine each-way claims.

In top echelon of sprinters for some time and won Group 1s at Ascot in both 2016 and 2017. Second and more recently third in this in last two renewals. Very competitive at this level again this year and can have a say, although faster ground ideal.

Was the 12-1 winner of this year's Group 1 Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot, though behind a few of these in the July Cup last time. Has won on good to soft, but does have a bit to prove elite level against older horses going into this.

Last year's Group 2 Superlative Stakes winner (7f, good to firm) at Newarket, but unable to add to a Listed Leopardstown win from April in six subsequent starts. Second in the St James's Palace Stakes (1m) and this will really test his gears.

Sole success came in a York novice event (6f, good to soft) last year, but has run well at Group level. Has 2L to find with Eqtidaar on their Commonwealth Cup running and it would be a shock if he came up trumps in this line-up.

Won last year's Group 2 Mill Reef (6f, good) at Newbury and returned there to win the 7f Group 3 Greenham in April. Posted a career-best effort when just edged out by ½L in Deauville Group 1 last time. Needs taking seriously on that evidence.

Won the Group 2 Sandy Lane Stakes over C&D in May and was beaten just ½L by Eqtidaar in the Commonwealth Cup. Form has dipped significantly below that in two subsequent runs, so has a fair bit to prove now, but competitive at his best.

7L behind Eqtidaar in the Commonwealth Cup, but produced a career-best when taking the Group 3 Phoenix Sprint Stakes at the Curragh last time. Needs improvement to finish in the first three, but not written off from doing so.

Forecasts

Harry Angel (6/4), Tasleet (6/1), The Tin Man (7/1), Sir Dancealot (7/1), Brando (14/1), Gustav Klimt (16/1), Donjuan Triumphant (16/1), Speak In Colours (16/1), James Garfield (16/1), Eqtidaar (20/1), Sands Of Mali (25/1), Hey Jonesy (50/1)

Verdict

A race that for a second year revolves around HARRY ANGEL. Clive Cox's brilliant sprinter injured himself when getting worked up in the stalls at Royal Ascot, but the vibes from his trainer are good and if he is at anything like his best, then it will take a special effort to beat him. Sir Dancealot has some very solid form and will be doing his best work late on. He is a lively each-way player along with James Garfield, whose task is to prove that his latest run was no fluke. Tasleet is another with frame claims, as has The Tin Man, although the forecast ground is slower than ideal for him.
  1. Harry Angel
