Yet to race on the AW, but back on an upward curve since dropped back to this trip at Windsor early last month; raised 6lb for his latest small-field win at Bath (5f, firm) just ten days ago.

Lightly raced, with a perfect AW record - decisive 5f Wolverhampton novice winner in December 2017. Things didn't quite go to plan (dwelt) on seasonal bow at Windsor in May, but still an interesting handicap debutante despite the lofty rating.

Solid AW performer (3 from 7), rated 8lb higher on synthetics than on turf; made all and not hard pushed to take a 5f seller at Lingfield in January (4/9f); left Tom Dascombe for 11,500gns after that race and returns off a break for a new trainer.

Drops in grade slightly after coming up short on just his second AW start over C&D last month (Class 2); had earlier posted a career best effort when winning on quick ground at Catterick (5f) in May, so needs to recapture that peak level.

Took a step back in the right direction on stable/seasonal debut at Newmarket last month (5f, good to firm) despite finishing only fifth of six to Embour; 6f juvenile winner here for William Haggas in 2017, so shouldn't be totally dismissed.

Fairly reliable on the whole winning twice in five starts, including readily over this trip at Windsor (good to firm) last month - Nine Below Zero 1L back in third; his earlier form suggests that he's got work to do to beat Requinto Dawn.

Notched an AW hat-trick in February and March (all over 5f), but his progress has seemingly slowed a fraction, and he's 0 from 2 at Chelmsford. Much better effort at Windsor on Monday evening (third), but can he back that up?

Forecasts

Al Asef (2/1), Nine Below Zero (9/4), Lord Riddiford (4/1), Grandfather Tom (8/1), Joegogo (8/1), Green Fortune (10/1), Requinto Dawn (14/1), Big Time Maybe (16/1)

Verdict

A tough race to solve with plenty of overlapping form-lines. Strictly speaking Lord Riddiford has the better of Nine Below Zero, but also with something to find with Requinto Dawn, although allowing for rapid improvement (possibly occurring), he could prove capable of improving his career strike-rate to 50% (3 from 6). Green Fortune is no back number and with course winning form (6f) could be worth an each-way investment at likely double figure odds, but the vote goes to the handicap debutante AL ASEF who is probably on a lofty mark, but remains unexposed, has AW winning form (Tapeta) and the wily, veteran rider Gerald Mosse on top.
  1. Al Asef
  2. Lord Riddiford
  3. Green Fortune
