Versatile performer who earns little respite from the assessor accordingly. Beaten a nose by Goring over this trip at Lingfield last month, and 2lb higher now, but is a classy horse as he demonstrated at Doha in early 2017.

Contested plenty of competitive handicaps after scoring readily in the Rosebery at Kempton in April 2017, including finishing runner up to Ballet Concerto in the 58th John Smiths Cup at York in July. Back from a break off a joint career high mark.

Trailed home last of 13 in this race in 2017, but generally consistent here overall, and was a course winner over the extended 1m1f in late November; beating Mount Tahan by a neck. Solid effort at Kempton latest.

Somewhat of a Lingfield specialist, and is a very tough nut to crack at that track over 1m. Dropped 1lb since finishing about 4½L sixth of 14 to Straight Right at Newcastle (7f) last month.

Perhaps not the most straightforward, but given a poor ride by Jamie Spencer when beaten at short odds at Lingfield last month (1m). Both of his career victories have come at Chelmsford, and this is a tough assignment in first time cheek-pieces.

2015 Cambridgeshire winner, so it's abundantly clear as to what level of ability he possesses. Unfortunately the handicapper is also aware of this fact and that's limited his winning chances. Better treated now, but not at his strongest lately.

Possibly best caught fresh as shown when profiting from a confident ride by this jockey at Lingfield last Saturday (1m). 3lb higher, but a consistent AW performer overall, so surely thereabouts on Wolverhampton debut.

Massively progressive on turf last season after running out a decisive winner at this track (7f) in April 2017. Rounded off the campaign at Haydock in September when beaten a short-head by Century Dream (1m heavy). Interesting off 2lb higher.

Boasts a 33% AW strike rate (3 from 9), but hasn't won on synthetics since January 2014. Beaten just 2½L when finishing fourth to Nimr in this race in 2017, but races off a 2lb higher mark today.

A horse who appears to have spells of form, and was rock-solid here between November 2016 and February 2017 (1,2,1,10,2,1). Reasonably handicapped, but could arrive in better shape; admittedly was tried 1m2f latest. Wears first time blinkers.

Not really shown this is his level just yet, but he's a reasonable AW performer (2 from 5) and arrives on the back of a December course success (1m1f+, Class 4). Beaten just 2L in the Doncaster Spring Mile in April 2017.

Pitched in at the deep end in this level of competition, but there's no denying that he adores Dunstall Park with all seven of his AW victories coming at this track. 2lb higher than when beaten 1L by Murdanova in a 7f Class 4 handicap latest.

Forecasts

Original Choice (9/4), Big Country (11/2), Constantino (8/1), Mr Scaramanga (8/1), Pactolus (10/1), Swift Emperor (10/1), Dragon Mall (12/1), Examiner (12/1), My Target (14/1), Third Time Lucky (16/1), Mythical Madness (16/1), Rouge Nuage (25/1)

Verdict

The Flat turf season is fast approaching (kicks off at Doncaster in a fortnight), so potential Lincoln/Spring Mile clues are on offer in this high-quality 1m AW handicap. Constantino was an impressive winner at Lingfield last week, travelling well throughout for Paul Hanagan, so must be strongly considered turned out quickly despite the sneaking thought that he's best caught fresh. Big Country is no stranger to competitive handicaps, but the 2017 Rosebery winner now races from a joint career high mark. Therefore, we'll stick with the progressive, unexposed William Haggas trained ORIGINAL CHOICE. He's 1 from 1 on synthetics, and looks capable of plenty more improvement as a four-year-old.
